Given the blast radius of this (all regions appear to be impacted) along with the fact that services that don't rely on auth are working as normal, it must be a global authN/Z issue. I do not envy Google engineers right now.

There's a lot of good reasons why you shouldn't just connect straight to the database from client-side code. [1] So you'll always need some form of server sitting in between. Maybe you could store it in a new database system
