macOS doesn't do anything with fonts. They removed all aliasing features. The Apple solution is to use retina displays for everything. That works great with Linux too.

No, Linux (Gnome/Wayland) uses a method similar to macOS where everything is rendered at a higher resolution and then scaled down. If you have a very high DPI display it looks nice, but if the DPI is not that high to begin with you wil

At least Windows and Linux try to render something usable. macOS simply removes all font aliasing and expects you to use a high DPI display.

Since you're talking volume: what about MacBooks?

Not sure. The Settings app has this big red dot when there's an update and there's not much I can do to get rid of it other than updating.

It's only a good thing if you can disable it, and you can't. I know which apps I granted permission, don't bug me about it. This is terrible UX design. I really hate how every year I have to hope macOS won't introduce an

The idea of hybrid web apps that combine SSR with CSR is actually very interesting. It allows for much richer experiences.

Yeah. Seniority should come with the realization that all tools are there for a reason and every engineering decision is a trade-off. Accept that maybe you don't know everything and be open to change your mind. All these "opinions

Ranting is easy. It's nice to vent once in a while, but then what? All that remains is that the author is fed up with tools that don't solve his problems. Ok? The key difference between the web and any other type of development, i

RCS is arguably a better solution than a single gatekeeper.

Why the fanboyism? It's not a tournament. Let's embrace competition and enjoy that it brings the best out of each OS.

No mention of Stage Manager at all if I'm correct? Seems like Apple is quietly abandoning that path.

I believe Apple does it completely locally on the device, whereas Google searches in the cloud.

Premature DIY can lead to the wrong abstractions. Sometimes code looks similar but actually isn't.

I guess that's true but you can't make a leap like Apple did with their transition to ARM every few years. So it's good to see the competition catch up. And I'm perfectly happy with Windows laptops trailing Apple by a cl

Exactly. They're now aggressively competing with Apple with supposedly better performance and better battery life. That's huge. Apple was years ahead with the introduction of the M1 but it appears competition has finally caught up

Funny, I am a firm believer of the opposite: Kubernetes is the perfect level of abstraction for deploying applications.

Resizing a window in macOS feels so janky. The fancy gestures are all very smooth, but the basic stuff seems like it's forgotten.

I noticed a lot of comments explaining the same thing, but also some confirming my observations. So far it appears the issue is mostly present if you have configured a separate DNS server in the DHCP settings, e.g. DNS is resolved somewhere

Can we be absolutely sure the "normal resolution mode" is always used? I'm happy to accept that impact might be not as severe as stated, but to me it's very scary that a simple nslookup for google.com returns the IP addr
