ZA -> UK 5 years -> US. Transformative for me. I ran a job search engine in London. There was no startup community to speak of and talk poppy syndrome is very real. Got to USA and relaunched it here, and found it laughably easy to do

I don’t think this is the right question. How do we secure our code, our data, and our supply chain is the right question. Most of our work environments span multiple endpoint hardwares and virtual instances and our data is spread across th

That’s a powerful story. I’d encourage you to try yoga. Do the Beachbody 3 week yoga retreat. Then continue doing one of the final “flow” routines every day. It’s 30 mins and is very accessible. It cured my chronic back pain and has elimina

This plugin has a low install count for WordPress at around 26K. It’s a commercial plugin as opposed to one of the plugins in the WP repo which helps explain the low install count. Most of the plugins that WP researchers look at are in the

80% of the web is powered by PHP and 40% of that is WordPress which has continued to grow. 64% of CMS websites are WordPress. There’s what gets upvotes, and then there’s what is widely used, supported, easy to hire devs for and practical as

Consider an office manager instead. It better describes the requirements that extend into your organization, and it’s one of the best early hires a growing org can make. If they shine, consider letting them take on HR tasks if you don’t alr

Stock is down 9% since announcement. It’s an interesting case study because you get clear arithmetic on how much this breach cost shareholders. Almost exactly one billion dollars. May be short lived but useful data nonetheless. Will inform

This is a bad idea. In the way of background, I worked as an ops engineer (MCSE and CNE) in the early to mid 90s migrating from IPX to TCP/IP. Then as a developer from 1998. Then as a tech entrepreneur from 2003 onwards. I've crea

Explaining the power of programming to someone who can’t code is like explaining living in 3 dimensions to a someone in a 2D universe. If you can’t code, nocode seems awesome. If you can, it seems like 2D in a 3D world.

It’s actually the core of all dev that involves any data storage, today. HN is both aspirational in tech and has a younger demographic so you won’t get any points here for mentioning anything SQL. Hence the downvotes I’m getting. But hey, i

This public official laying down rules “you are free to… but please” tone has become commonplace on HN in the past few years. Anyone know the origin? Perhaps a shift in public enthusiasm for controlling speech? Did it start at universities?
