So are bicycles, if you ride them outside of a protected lane. 30mph collision with a barrier is probably quite survivable in one of these things. Obviously 70mph not so. Unsafe depends on your environment. I'm perfectly safe biking ab

Everything you are describing can be solved by paying for parking. Even in the busiest areas of a downtown American city, you can find a monthly parking lot that will rent you a secure parking spot that is truly yours. Of course, it won

This is entirely unrelated to the presence or lack of housing in urban areas. If anything, a monopolistic landlord would like to expand and build more apartments, to extract a higher volume of above-market rent.

It's only a deathtrap because driving in the USA you have to share a massive high speed interstate with 2.5 ton SUVs and pickups. With lower speed local driving (the type that would be enabled by more density), and without subsidizing

This is my conjecture but my guess is that it's very heterogeneous. Salaries are high basically only if you have switched jobs recently. My guess is that people who have stayed at their jobs through the massive inflationary period of t

Nuclear waste is dangerous. Coal ash, tailings, hydrocarbon extraction byproducts; those are also dangerous. Look at cancer rates near refinery areas in Louisiana or Houston -- you might imagine a nuclear bomb went off in those areas based

I also think the space of products that involve training per-customer models is quite large, much larger than might be naively assumed given what is currently out there. It may be true that inference is 100x larger than training in terms of

THE biggest danger to children is cars. Not pit bulls or crazy people. Gigantic cars that are so big that the driver cannot see out of them in front of their own bumper. Everything else is not really worth the effort in comparison.

What should happen during a squash/rebase is that the semantic meaning of commits should be revised for maximum legibility of a future maintainer. If you did one "thing" on a PR branch, and it took you 10 commits to do it, th

Doesn't insurance have the incentive to go after car thefts? I've never heard of cops listening to e.g. bike theft (I had my bike stolen, didn't even bother) but I would think if you file a claim for a stolen car the insuranc

Maybe there should be a sort of "anti-saas-sales" role: you get commission on whatever costs you're able to justify as superfluous. After all, the person at AWS makes commission selling you the stuff.
