I'm actually interested in a more technical discussion of you're experience using couchapps. Did that model of packaging html/css/js into a design document work well? How do you handle deployment? Did you get constrai

The community is about pi/2 ahead of the external perception. We're a year away from losing the founder and the brand confusion with membase (unfortunate). That said, the committer base has nearly doubled in the last year and th

Take a look at chewbranca's work on Fauxton in the master branch of couchdb, and some of his personal riffs at https://github.com/chewbranca/mr-turtles . The idea is to use tools like you mentioned to run JS in br

Anybody looking for a more technical dive, Matt Strassler (String theorist formerly from UW, now poached to Rutgers) has an incredibly readable exposition here: http://profmattstrassler.com/articles-and-posts/relativity

There are obviously many providers that we could have put on here. I had fun debating how to classify certain examples. E.g., Heroku's Postgres service. Hosted or Managed?

I voted, and you can probably guess my answer. Do you update the visualization before checking if the vote is a duplicate?

What's your worry about an open source fork? Apache CouchDB is in solid shape and we at Cloudant are working to merge the BigCouch clustering layer back into Apache CouchDB for the 2.0 release.

That's well underway and planned for the 2.0 release of CouchDB.

Space/resources was certainly a concern in this case. A disk-based solution with predictable latencies enables storage of far more data than something that requires holding the working set in RAM.

You're right, we should address that more clearly. Thanks for the feedback.

Cloudant sits under the Apache CouchDB API, so the easiest path for migration in/out of Cloudant is to use replication to/from another CouchDB-speaking service like Cloudant, Apache CouchDB, TouchDB (mobile), PouchDB (browser). For most da

Is this an extension/re-packaging of AWS-SWF? It looks like a simplified version of the workflow engine with a nice GUI. Would love a response from someone at AWS, since I always thought SWF was the most under appreciated of AWS services.

Most shops are willing to let you work remotely. Anyone that's down with stat. mech. has a solid base for quantitatively attacking most problems. Luckily the 'domain' knowledge required is general human consumer behavior, which you'll kno

Yep, you've pretty much got it right. It is an indirect probe of new physics, not a direct probe. However, that method is well established. Some of the strongest constraints for new physics come from things like neutron dipole moment and

@hatetobethatguy, you're spot on. In an effort to keep the reading list concise I skimped on the historical literature. Do you have a good "first" reference on map reduce? Lisp?

The answer to that question definitely depends on the application. The Cloudant data model allows for read, write, and admin roles to be assigned to both users in the cloudant.com domain as well as generated API keys. For data consumption

I think that Finance is indeed the obvious candidate. In neutrino experiments we've gotten pretty good at synchronized clocks with nanosecond resolution. Although (to be fair) we cheat and get some very useful information out of the beam
