I’m grateful for our local “community telcos” that deliver far faster connectivity and far lower prices, and with generally great service. I have toyed with the idea of starting one for my current neighborhood (low density residential, so n

So as a CTO, why do people think it’s extra cool that I build wooden boats, too? One of my role models is a retired Chevrolet mechanic who has never had to worry about money. The stigma is just one more tragic falsehood that echoes around u

In the face of this I give up trying to identity business opportunities. Stealing sand to sell on the black market? Hundreds of billions in revenue? I’m out - I clearly suck at this capitalism thing.

I think of the word in the context of the attempt, rather than the outcome. We agree on the situation, but I do think folks are “falling for it” as they are the storyline of job scarcity (also pure BS as we sit, though it may become true).

Many people are being told “you work better in the office“ by their leadership. If that’s not gaslighting I’m not sure what it is.

I’d quibble that the Cascades don’t have an age as they have continually been destroyed and renewed. They started at some point and have never stopped. What I mean by “the gorge” is what is monumental. The river was there, but what we admir

Yep. And one of the likely outcomes of global warming is an accelerated shift back to such conditions, ironically. None of this stuff is likely today, but it will all inevitably repeat.

One of my favorite such observations is in winter. Arriving at the top of the Mt Hood Express chairlift, soaking in blue sky and white snow, a smell of sulfur is often in the air. The magma chamber of this “potentially active” volcano is ve

This kind of “inevitable uncertainty” is uncomfortable. It will happen, and becomes more likely as time goes on, but it’s unlikely to happen today or tomorrow. It’s possibly catastrophic, but likely to be “only” severe. Geology in Oregon i

It’s not after an investigation begins, it’s the moment that it’s likely or foreseeable that an legal action may come. Basically, if you think you might be in trouble and you delete stuff, you definitely are. Edit: illegal -> a legal

No, it's a job. Sound investment management is just a lot of work, and takes education, training and experience. It isn't about "get rich quick" after some point; it's about staying rich. Right?

Absolutely right. My point is just that it isn’t that people couldn’t, but that they can’t. The former meaning that people generally do have the needed skills, the latter meaning they don’t have the opportunity.

Yep. Very likely they are using API Gateway with Usage Plans, which is a very simple and effective way to do rate limiting and quotas.
