Indeed. I din't know the term bollard applied to anything other than large mooring cleats. TIL.

Even Chrome on mobile only supports the drop down list, and not type ahead. Kind of wild — seems like this is a perfect fit for thumb typing devices.

Other browsers support this attribute, which allows associating a datalist with an input to provided predefined options and save some typing. On a phone this seems very helpful and I’m surprised to find it doesn’t work. Is there controversy

According to what I understand from researches in this area is that even a slight increase in A1C is highly correlated with later progression. You may not like the term, but it effectively communicates the situation.

It seems like these could have some great advantages for use in sailboats, both house and propulsion (weight matters a lot less in a bit). The fire safety, rapid recharge (from engine), and higher power than lead-acid are pretty great. What

What is the purpose of asking for “act on your behalf” permission for GitHub? That doesn’t seem necessary, or shouldn’t for an eval. Sorry, but I don’t trust you (that’s the job, right?).

Cheaters are just a part of the game IMHO. Back when I played CS with a competitive bent it was fun to play against and beat honest cheaters. Skill building, as it were. Those I despised and wished a special place in hell with mint flavored

This brings to mind a concern that's closer to home for me, which is the similar dynamic in the US between urban and rural populations. I grew up in a rural area, and different people will of course have had contrary experiences, but I

I’m letting it sink in that GitHub thinks it would be a win if 10%+ of the world population is involved in creating software. I have no hope of hiring an electrician in that world.

Well said. Assistive technology is great when it helps developers write the “right” code and tremendous destructive to company value otherwise.

I’m sympathetic to the author and having to deal with unpleasant folks. But I wonder how much of the economic experience is simply underestimating how difficult “business” actually is? This has come up a few time recently on HN, where someo

Any patent that fails to “teach” the innovation can be challenged and will likely prevail if it’s an egregious gap. That’s the public benefit part, in writing.

I hope, perhaps against mainstream opinion, that the myopic focus on the young will be proven flawed. I see the launches and highlights YC posts on LinkedIn and elsewhere and see no one like me, yet am confident I would both benefit from it

Agreed. YC from my POV is attractive not for the money but the motivation. The peer influence (encouragement, competition, accountability) is what I feel would improve my chances of building something amazing. But I can’t disagree with the

And, the author isn’t suggesting only having JSON output, but adding it as an option for those of use that would make use of it. The plain text should remain as well (and has to or many, many things would break). On a separate point, I find

But as the article points out, the advice to use unbuffered JSON lines for commands that are line oriented is well given. Not doing that can really make life sad.

Serious question: Does YC recognize and remediate the unconscious bias that comes with looking at said videos? It seems like it may be comforting, but potentially counter-productive.
