Sometimes I wonder why these nifty data structures that someone already implemented in c++ don't immediately (or even 5+ years later) have ports to other languages. Especially languages that are closer to the metal than average (e.g. R

I would agree. 11 years seems light for something of this magnitude, even if you don't consider possession sentences.

Kudos to the python core devs. The core library is getting cleaner and more maintainable and the language is getting more performant and powerful for users. Long live the snake

Am I the only one who never cared about free will? Either we have free will or we don't - we will never know - and it doesn't actually matter.

The carbon project for c++ defines some fixed ABI types in the standard library to enable things like this. I hope that c++ can learn from that - I tried to propose fixed ABI types in the standard a few years back but didn't get very

While I prefer python over yaml, I tend to think imperative build systems are inherently more brittle.

Very important point. Calling new designs safer is buying into the narrative that older designs are unsafe, which is simply untrue. It's like saying new t-shirts are more wearable.

The point being made about extremism hinges on the axis being "ideological left/right" rather than "how much I like the candidate"

This is quite reductive and ridiculous, people don't measure their difference from a candidate on a single axis and vote for the person with the smallest distance.

The thing vendors care about more than anything is making upstream work supported. Google isn't even complaining about things, this is a very dry technical document about their experience, for an amount of work they certainly expected

A reviewer can usually tell which code is easier to understand side by side, even when it's yourself as the reviewer. Applying rules like these to your code may or may not result to cleaner code, but that's a testable hypothesis.
