You unfortunately cannot "just use csv" if you're dealing with modern tabular data. (non-ascii) Here is an example of basic BOM ignoring and delimiter insanity demonstrated by SAP: https://wiki.scn.sap.com/wik

I would argue that its already not working. I remember a time when everybody I knew went to google for communications services. After a few years of domination Google started competing with itself and suddenly those of us who were willing t

As long as the constituency is ultimately unwilling to hold anybody responsible after the fact... it may suck, but its still a winning strategy. The crux of the problem is that the majority of the voting public has been conditioned to treat

Beaker is a cool idea. We were trying to use it instead of jupyter but it ended up being too buggy. Its been a few months, has it gotten better?

But XMPP is a standard protocol... not a client or library. Should we all abandon HTTP because IE6 sucked? Thats the logical equivalent to the argument.

Why is everybody fighting so hard to use iMessage? I just tell people I can't use it since Apple doesn't provide a solution for everybody. I thought that was the normal response. Why are people losing sleep over this?

For a short period, most of those old proprietary clients started supporting XMPP. That was the golden age of instant messaging. I couldn't help but notice that somewhere around that time is also when Apple released iMessage and FaceTi

I wonder what the cost is to maintain uber legacy systems like that? Like at what point does it teeter over to being the most expensive thing like it? (while remaining less capable)

True, but you can/could easily do that with LVM snapshots and merges too. We snapshot the databases (copy on write) which is instant, then if we want to roll it back we lvm merge and remount. Everything is pretty instant and it doesn&#
