I believe the Oscars are a scam, but I was still thrilled when EEAAO swept them this year. That film was darn near perfect and I can't praise it enough. The first and only time I've ever cried in a movie just because of beautiful

I've always felt like the happy compromise would be a system where everyone lives in healthy, youthful bodies for as long as they like, and then dies whenever they decide to. I am very afraid of death. But I also don't want to liv

There's only one wealth and one knowledge coffer. Both AI and humanity have their own wealth and knowledge production rates linked to the number of GPUs/IQ and population, respectively.

I don't think we need any more useful data for the AIs to gobble up — we just need to make the architectures we train more data-efficient. In my mind, a few petabytes of text, images, audio, and videos from the pre-AI era should be

Some cool stuff from the paper: • Earlier SD versions would often generate images where the head or feet of the subject was cropped out of frame. This was because random cropping was applied to its training data as data augmentation, so it

From hanging out around the LAION Discord server a bunch over the past few months, I've gathered that they're still using LAION-5B in some capacity, but they've done a bunch of filtering on it to remove low-quality samples. I

I find it pretty amusing how well these 3 criticisms apply to both LLMs and United States congresspeople. Dishonesty, frequent uselessness, and charisma—sounds like we've automated politicians!

Agreed. Implementing backprop myself—even if it was a crappy, slow version in MatLab—is what finally got me to understand it. I've worked as an ML researcher for 2 years since then and I'm still routinely happy that I have that

Given that the largest model configurations are only on the order of ~1-2B parameters, I think you could probably run inference on a 3090. Training might be possible too (it's something I plan to try) but will be very slow on most cons
