I'm running Ubuntu at work and OS X at home. For a workstation Ubuntu is fine, but I'm not going to give up OS X. I develop on both and the experience is similar, but the OS X gui is just what I prefer.

I agree with most of the suggestions here. Read the man pages, perlintro, perlreftut, all those. The Camel book is great also. And of course write scripts. One thing I would like to add is reading Higher Order Perl. http://www.powells.com/

yeah mzscheme is super simple to install on osx. I had similar results to the poster with clisp though. It was the reason I pretty much gave up on common lisp. I could install it and get slime working up on XP no problem, but getting anythi

The reason why we started using it was we are required to send out HTML email. This sucks I know, but it wasn't an option. I found that CI's email lib had problems with sending out HTML mail with images as attachments and referencing those

We are currently using CI on a pretty big project and I have both good and bad things to say about it. The good news is that it is a "rails like" framework, but without the magic. Some of the helpers are really nice, the validation lib is p

Unfortunately something as simple as input validation often does not occur. It baffles me when I look over at code from contract work or I come into a new job and see GET requests modifying the database, and POST's going completely unchecke
