Wellll, you could set it to check every 1-30 days, so maybe set it to check less frequently? Wouldn't solve the changing-your-number thing, but I'm guessing you don't do that too often.

Right -- the message is customizable, and after you save your contacts, it prompts you with a message you can text them to let them know about the service.
