I'm interested in this, but why not just write natively in Scheme? I really like Clojure, but if you don't need the Java interop, Scheme seems just as nice.

In Seattle, you can rent goats to help take care of pesky invasive vegetation like blackberry bushes. Blackberries sound like a good idea until they take over, and they're very difficult to remove. Goats will eat them, though, so you c

Yes. Scala is a great language, but it devolves into line noise so quickly. ML's relative lack of brackets is so nice, and so is the automatic currying of multi-argument functions. I also really love discriminated unions, and it's

Are other forms of concurrency still available? This has always seemed like a strange limitation. Most of the code that I write doesn't require me to spin up tons of threads (at least, not in my code), but sometimes it's really he

Although some of the lofty stated goals of this project seem commendable, this is one of the worst ideas I have heard in a long time. I can't tell if it's a joke, but I hope that it is.

I wonder if this says anything about the ruling we can expect from the court on the Myriad Genetics case. The New York Times summary implied that the farmer in question had some knowledge that he was using seeds in a way that might infringe

I agree that the disparity is a serious problem. However, I reject the notion that the solution is to pay the athletes. The fundamental problem is the intertwining of a business and an academic pursuit; colleges should not be in the busines

On the whole, this "announcement" doesn't really provide a lot of detail, and some of the scientific explanation is misleading (or just wrong). That doesn't mean the development isn't exciting - doing a PCR on a chip that size is pretty coo

It's better to think of map without thinking of looping. I think its a good idea to think of it as converting a container of A to a container of B. It doesn't matter how it happens, and the container might be empty, or only big enough only
