I can understand the dramatically increased costs with chip production. But the article makes it sound like the 9x increase is with the design of the chip (e.g., with an HDL simulator).

Could anyone help me understand why is it 9 times more expensive to design a chip at 7nm than 28nm? I would have naively thought chip design is fairly automated, but a 9x increase makes is sound like every gate and path is delicately hand-s

Library of Congress did change DCMA rules last year to allow consumers to modify an abandon-ware game to bypass authentication servers that no longer exist. However, they specifically excluded MMO-like games, only covering "video games

I think it's because players have to download an old version of WoW in order to play. This is a full game download and includes artwork and music IP content. Not to mention it means there is no need to pay a monthly fee to Blizzard. Bl

Je suis Linode! This is nothing less than cyber-terrorism, and I hope the FBI is involved. A problem I see with people throwing Linode under the bus is that only the mega hosting providers (AWS/Google) have the resources to mitigate su

PHP 7 has been very stable, but a serious bug was discovered close to launch that made them delay the release by two weeks. There have been no serious issues found since that time, so release should be imminent.

A-Train should be in there. It inspired SimCity 2000's isometric view and was also a great game to boot with a strong economic system (ledger, stocks, taxes, capital gains, etc).

The article states that the industry is fearful of water as as substitute because brand preference is not as strong and there are plenty of cheap competitors.

OK that looks much better designed. Definitely would recommend that over a flat charger, based on my experience.

Occasionally, my Nexus 5 is dead in the morning because the phone was not perfectly placed on the wireless charger. Until Google expands the charging area on the phone to eliminate this problem, I don't mind going back to wired chargin

You missed the part about re-examining the cross-currents of knowledge between the East and West. I like the analogy of it being an early (and much slower) version of the internet. Ideas are not formed in a vacuum.

The image at the bottom of the article? It's not the same penguin it's a cartoon drawing. The feet are different, the eyes are different, the beak is different, the wings are different. The only thing similar is the pose.
