Yes, CockroachDB excels at strong consistency at mid-low workload volumes. There are already some production deployments doing this kind of work.

I've seen these kinds of things and have always been dubious that they are able to pay a full time salary for someone that is even close to what they could make with a normal full time dev job. What's the highest monthly amount yo

As described by the other commentator, this isn't quite the same. My normal workflow is 2 command line windows and ~3-4 open files. Doing this in tmux while trying to maintain the ability to move and split windows at will means that&#x

I switched from vi to acme a few years ago after watching this video, and I'm still happy with my choice. It took me a while to figure acme out, but it has some killer features like: - files and command line sessions are both just wind

I think the people who make and use Go have had a different experience than you, and judge a language to be suited to production with different criteria. Simplicity, great concurrency (that is, way better than most others even if not the be

This doesn't take into account when clocks on different systems run at different speeds, or when clocks jump, especially on VMs and cloud instances, which happens all the time.

The blog and other non-docs pages use hugo ( http://gohugo.io/ ) and the docs use jekyll, but will be ported to hugo soon. We use github pages for hosting with cloudflare in front (for https on a custom domain).

Off topic but: this is some good nostalgia here. I was that other coworker. Some of the best pair programming I've ever done. It was fun working closely with Nick.

I work at CockroachDB on the implementation of the Postgres protocol, and I'm a maintainer of lib/pq, a Go client implementation of the protocol. Overall I think it is a very good protocol. I can't come up with any gripes I h

I can name a handful of role models in the computing field that were important for my development: Joel Spolsky, Jeff Atwood, Patrick McKenzie, Dan Luu, Steve Yegge. However not until about 2 years ago was there a single women I could think

In 2015 I paid app engine about $1700 or ~$130/month or a bit over $4/day. I could probably get that down another dollar or so a day if I did some optimization and cleanup work, but I haven't cared.

That's the first link under the link to the SQL:2011 section about this, so it's not too difficult to get to there.

Ah, I didn't know that. It looks like you have to enable those explicitly. CockroachDB built time travel over it's existing MVCC layer, which means it works out of the box for all tables.

I think CockroachDB is making genuine progress in the distributed, consistent space. We now have to add many of the existing features on top of that.

I searched for the syntax listed in the standard and didn't find it in production use anywhere else. I've used MSSQL in production before (last time in 2015) but never Oracle. I'm happy to now know that other SQL DBs have thi

I'm attempting to even imagine how one would build a useful way to test this. Would they have to have a secondary, world-wide datacenter network with all their various services behind it?
