I remember hearing Mordrax speak about the upgrade, quite herculean! At our company it was much less drastic. At the time we had about 35kloc of Elm and it took me one evening of Vim macro frenzy. The trickiest things we encountered were an

I use ports to write to the filesystem. There is a small amount of JS that initializes Elm, which runs in Node and has the ability to write to the filesystem. Of course if you'll be running elm-in-elm in the browser, you won't be

I've briefly looked at LLVM and how to interface with it but back then I didn't find much else than some C++ Builder API. I'd hope for some textual format that I could give to LLVM as an input. I assume it exists and that I&#

The #jobs section on the Elm Slack is quite alive. Can't speak for the community as whole, but there is at least some demand: the company I'm working for is actively hiring Elm devs for at least two teams at this moment :)

As pd-andy says, it's not finished yet, but yes you're right, that's one of the things it will enable: interpreting Elm code from within Elm - an eval function of sorts.

One thing to note is that writing the compiler in Elm instead of just compiling the Haskell compiler to JS allows us to expose bits of the compiler as an Elm library. I mean, being able to bootstrap is nice and nerdy and so on, but I believ

Hello! Author here. Didn't expect to land on HN before the compiler is actually useful - Oto, you'll pay for this! :) Feel free to ask me anything about the project, although bear with me - I'm learning compilers/... on

I wonder how does that work. Why can you use the 5 flies you found to divide the total sample size? It's kind of giving you an invariant number: * 100 flies -> 5 flies (5%), 100 / 0,05 = 2000 * 80 flies -> 4 flies (5%), 80 &

I was in this situation: the (remote) company paid based on location, but also they paid about 2-3x as much as top companies from my country, and definitely 3-4x as much as what I earned in the previous job (local company). Just want to say

Hello HN! This is a screencast series I'm currently in the process of recording. The goal is to illuminate how PBT libraries are written, and to share the idea of integrated shrinking (which is not as well known as perhaps it would des

You could consider Pandas / numpy an array language, even though it's really a library for Python. The exposed API is IMHO what's important.

Have you had bad experience with hiring for Elm? As written in different comment my Elm hiring experience was stellar, but now I wonder if it might be because we're fully remote team (not, say, Czech company hiring only Czechs from a r

I have used Elm with Electron (without any starting template, sorry) for a presentation software ( https://lyricslides.com ) and it was fine. You set up a few ports and let Elm be the brain while Electron does the side-effecty stu

Disclaimer: I'm now fully in the Elm and strong static typing camp, so... I'm biased. My anecdote is that I wrote a backend Slack bot in Clojure (not ClojureScript) - the experience was great when writing it. But three months late

Sounds like the codebase would benefit from http://blog.jenkster.com/2016/06/how-elm-slays-a-ui-antipatt... which is what we use all over the place in our production Elm app and I can't praise it enough.

Very cool! I am particularly intrigued by the "full-colour" bitmap font approach you took. (I'm trying to get a Fallout 2 font into my F2-inspired browser game, and so far I've managed to get PNG-in-SVG-in-OT working in

You don't need to use the advanced features of Haskell to be productive with Haskell. On my latest project I'm writing Haskell in a largely Elm style, and it's glorious.

JIRA Cloud is very slow (we moved from JIRA Server not that long ago). There is about a 5-10 second pause between seeing (server-rendered? I'm unsure) data for an issue and the page actually becoming interactive (ie. me being able to c
