I generally only listen to criticism from people that have accomplished something similar to what they are criticising themselves. There are so many negative people out there, and it's a good way to sort the wheat from the chaff. People who

I started learning how to program around a year ago, and one of my first and best resources was W3Schools. I think the authors of this document are missing the point of the site entirely, it's not about being 100% correct on all issues, it'

Back in the dot-com days I wrote a lot of businessplans, both for my own things and for others. I excelled at the whole hockey-stick curve and the "we will enhance shareholder value by doing x" (I always put in this Cryptonomicon quote to s

People aren't stupid, they're lazy. They expect things to just work out of the box. They don't want to create online accounts, they don't look through the setup menus and they certainly don't read the manual.

Also - building a lifestyle business is largely under your own control, if you work hard and have the least bit of talent you'll be able to make it work. Hitting the jackpot is much more a matter of things outside your control, even though

It depends. Sometimes I see comments that I don't understand are downvoted - I upvote these and sometimes comment. But most downvoted comments are downvoted for an obvious reason: they're snarky, personal, ad-hominen attacks, trolls or just

Since this is HN a better question would be: How can I communicate with my laptop if when and if it goes online again? Can I SSH into it? Is there some program running at startup that would allow me to control it remotely? Best of luck with

The things you mention are what inflation is meant to nullify. In an economists perfect world the amount of a normal good you can buy with $1 would be the same as the amount of that good you could buy for 1 inflation-adjusted dollar at any

25% of the world population in jail is American. 737 out of 100.000 Americans are in jail, that's almost one out of a hundred. As a comparison Denmark has 59 out of 100.000 people in jail. And the number of Americans in jail has been rising
