Any domain can authenticate its users, Mozilla acts as a fallback if a domain does not do this. At this moment most domains do not directly support Persona authentication, so almost always the fallback is used, but the system is decentraliz

I agree and I think it is impossible to create an interface that is optimal for both inexperienced and power users. For users that are using a piece of software frequently, say few hours a day, intuitiveness of an interface should not matte

But I suspect the join must have been over an indexed column, so it did not touched 4bln rows, otherwise 2-3 seconds would be hard to believe. The group by query in the article must access all 3bln rows, which makes a huge difference.

You are right, TV viewed as just a display is IMO not bound to die. But TV as a platform for delivering content very likely is (and this is large part of the business). Companies creating smart TVs are definitely not agreeing that TV should

Yes, people for sure will still want to watch stuff on good quality displays. But I think dump TVs: large displays that you can easily connect to a standard computer or a mobile device and stream content to are much more compelling than 'sm

I wonder if any attempt at reinventing TV will achieve a mainstream success (I mean a legacy TV scale success). Up until today all such attempts attracted a relatively small group of customers and a popular opinion is that TV is bound to di

It of course depends on the problem, no architecture is good for everything. REST has its cost, it usually requires more work and careful design then going RPC way, but for some kind of problems it can be really beneficial when done right.

This article is not at all about REST, it is about RPC and its shortcomings. These shortcoming were fixed by REST, and the author of the article rediscovers these fixes. A key features of a REST API is that is self describable, in a sense,

I think the main problem with this business model is that it is not really beneficial for large number of advertisers. I heard so many times about local businesses that were screwed by Groupon, because they offered too many deals at too low

I don't fully get the point of this benchmark. Connection handling is operating system business, so you should get similar numbers with any framework that runs on the same OS and correctly uses epoll (or an equivalent system call).
