Is there a client-side Sass-to-CSS parser? Seems totally doable, and it would address build-complexity problems.

wow... that UI is rubbish compared to the Courier stuff. Oddly heartening to see that Microsoft can actually do decent UI when it sets its mind to it...

That disparity is pretty egregious. Modeling for children that men can also give care is actually pretty important.

Corporations as they're structured today may not be contract-like, but they certainly aren't person-like either. I hope a high court or two finds the cojones to admit this and stop trying to do legal code by analogy.

The bad press about App Store polices play big here, and elsewhere in the tech press, but in the general press? People don't care about a developer's woes unless they themselves are developers. Only a few people care about apps they aren't

Well, that's one possible solution down. Maybe there are some others? CL seems to feel that doing anything at all to fight the asshats just results in giving the asshats more toys to play with... and for the obvious solutions, that's true.

There are cases where asking for money would actually make the site deliver more value to everyone - personal ads, for example.

And there won't be, until... developers start developing for something else. If just ten independent developers with interesting apps ported to another platform (doesn't have to be to Android, but of course I'd prefer that) in a coordinated

Pretty decent work for what it is, but nobody wants to develop for a so-called web OS. Instead of building a big thing that only exists to be a framework for other things, you'd do better building something that has usefulness on its own, b

They're all handicapped in other ways, though. And sadly, the handicap that seems to matter most to most people is "no apps." Vote with your feet; write something cool for Android.

A wave isn't a flow of synchronous text (or asynchronous posts, for that matter) - it's a standing unit of editable text + widgets + threaded comments. Sort of live-wiki-ish.

The first iPod - look at those stats! So limited! - was $400. So I wouldn't pronounce this one dead out of the gate. (I wouldn't pronounce it a home run either, but with the right marketing, who knows?)

Thin is built with the HTTP parsing code from Mongrel - and, curiously, has always admitted it. A large number of the people who shout "Mongrel sucks" have those funny ways of saying "except when it doesn't" under their breath right after.

Flickr started as a chat room, made as a quick side project using technologies developed for a MMORPG. It just took over the company's energy, in much the same way Twitter took over Obvious Corp. [edit before someone gets as pedantic on me

Back up and definitely worth a look. Lately it seems like content sites are increasingly hybridizing with what we'd think of as being more like applications.

The kids who show up in this article are framed to sound callow and shallow. I'm suspicious. I want to hear more from them directly. What does it say about the author of this piece, and her generation, that she seems to think teens (and the
