I suspect if Netflix had the money to make it worth HBO's splitting from cable companies it would have happened when they were looking for content channels. I'm not sure if this is in Amazon's core business either.

Maybe I'm giving them too much credit, but I'm assuming they made the business calculations and the partnerships with the cable companies was much more profitable than splitting off and doing HBO GO on their own, at least in the regions tha

Yes, this is the point that needs to be made every time someone rages at HBO. It's not that they are doing this despite fans "wanting them to take their money", it's that cable partners have made it financially unreasonable for HBO to split

Isn't a possible solution to up the game of makeup and set details? It seems like 48fps would increase the amount of possible detail and therefore control the film maker has over the experience. If you up the amount of detail the viewer can

If you believe 60fps is better than 24fps, I have a really hard time believing there's something about our visual processing that makes 48fps worse than 24fps.

The title of this article is clearly linkbait. It's never been solely about "having original ideas". I would argue that if a startup fails to build up a competitive advantage or a barrier to entry, then they indeed should not bother. I thin

I would say that if lots of users are using tabs as placeholders in this way, and I personally know a lot including myself, then it's evidence of the bookmarking system being a bad or poorly designed solution for this problem. Bookmarks are

I highly doubt that just because its supposedly covered under TOS that they'd start using celebrity Instagram pictures against their will. There are plenty of reasons for them not to.

I'm not exactly sure what solution you're proposing here, to an old problem that's already been around longer than Google or Amazon - Government intervention? I'm also curious how this would be evaluated if Amazon/Google price their hardwar

I think you're already somewhat saying this, but to clarify, there's a big difference between where the money comes from with selling an iPad vs. a Nexus 7. 1) Google doesn't make money on the selling of the hardware, but with customers usi

Yes, I use that and also have Instapaper/Readability regularly mail me articles. It's helpful but these are still hacks. 1) It's horribly painful to organize the articles, especially when spanning multiple pages 2) I have to know about the

Yes, I agree. "e-ink" optimized apps would probably have to happen for this device. (Pagination instead of scrolling, buttons instead of swiping...) However, these days some displays are getting 30fps (I don't know about latency), so at lea

On a similar note, I've been waiting to see an Android tablet, without an anemic cpu, use a high contrast, fast refresh e-ink screen. The Kindle is great, but I find myself mostly emailing articles to it from services like Instapaper/Readab

Yes! Same here. I feel like I'm part of a niche group that wants an e-ink device that at least reads web content rather than having to download or email myself articles. Are there particular technological limits aside from the cheap process

I am just skeptical about outside of large cities since even Yelp has very little coverage outside of major cities, and they have a much larger demographic. However, I can see that targeting other dietary needs doesn't really have any disad

I believe we could really start teaching code at a relatively young age too, or at least start teaching them the ability to have the mindset for programming.

I was also about the use writing and reading as an example of knowledge that used to be limited to just specialized roles. While there are still professions that deal exclusively with writing exceptionally well, it's now part of our basic e
