Just a thought. Couldn't a user that is below average who thinks he is above average take this fact as a cue to vote as average to show that he is above average? Wouldn't it then skew the above-average-average-voters downwards?

Not wanting to threadcrap, but what is the point of this poll? Are you compiling these stats for something?

Our company works on a half-day Friday system. We work for 8.75 hrs M-Th and 5 hrs on Fri. It seems to work well and the work days are short enough to prevent burnout.

Definitely sounds like a good idea. Add to that a decent message/spam filtering mechanism (like karma) and you're in business.

I must admit that Ruby was the reason I started looking at Python as well as other web frameworks. I've ultimately decided on Python/Django as my start point.

Not the most efficient, but here was my process: 1. List 100 things about your company and what you want it to represent. 2. Throw that into an application with custom rename logic (i.e. remove vowels, flip words, replace similar sounding

I'm not discounting the Finnish school system or anything but I would take any results based on standardized tests with a grain of salt. Many tests of this nature have been shown to be biased or skewed to the benefit or detriment of certai

In my experience, business users rarely know what they want. This could be a good tool but the definition of the problem will always be the key.

Excellent article. It seems what he said about classmates would also apply to choosing a startup founder: What if you could buy 10% of one of your classmates and their future earnings? You wouldn't buy the ones with the highest IQ, the bes

Hm. It seems like the mobile space is following the same path as the PC space. Phones (like PC's) are tending more towards thin client status. As soon as Android and Webkit are up to snuff with rich web apps, we will be seeing mobile phon

It seems as if the author is looking at the attempted Yahoo! acquisition as a pure business/user play. BG said it himself-it's the engineers he's after, not the market share.

Instead of saying the cost of failure is zero, I think the author should have put it in terms of risk tolerance. In general, people younger in age have less to risk, thus 100% risk while younger < 100% risk when you're older.

While I do agree that most enterprise software support offices are-let's be honest-crap, that fact doesn't negate the enterprise's need for software support. Companies desire that safety blanket and "having someone to blame" even if they a

I'm with parent. I do enjoy and learn a TON from this site but I doubt I would qualify for any sort of "hacker" title. I'm very much a H.I.T. (hacker in training).

This was probably mentioned in some form before, but what about a combination user spam button/automatic temp-ban? If the last X posts by user were marked as spam, ban account for X days. Two temp bans = perm ban.

Any music that my brain doesn't try to process. Preserves concentration while keeping out noise. I'm currently listening to Nujabes - Modal Soul. It's a mix of hiphop/jazz and mostly instrumental.
