Add me to the chorus of people that are impressed/scared by spammers. In a previous life, I worked at a semi-well-known auto publisher site where scammers literally stood up a copy of almost _the entire site_ (ads, functionality, and a

The reason people in power don't care about design is because good design is hard to quantify and thus hard to justify effort and/or expense. The results of bad design (i.e. takeoff power from grandparent) are much easier to quant

For software, the usefulness in Gantt charting seems to lie in the visualizing and mapping project dependencies and rough ordering of milestones. Where most get it wrong is in believing that the date at the end of the chart is anything more

I really do feel like AR is the future, moreso than VR. As technologists we have a tendency to want to build our own world instead of integrate into the real world. It's understandably easier/cleaner, but it strips out all the ri

Maybe I'm getting old but I want a game that brings real people together. There are more than enough "get everyone together virtually" games. I want a game that actually reinforces the social fabric instead of simulates it. S

I seriously hope MSFT is committed to pushing Blazor. It's has the potential to stand above the other "unified back end front end" technologies. Unfortunately Blazor hype has really died down the last couple of years and I&#

Sadly, I'm with you on this. My immediate reaction after reading that quote was "Who decides what constitutes well-being?" Unfortunately, the answer is whomever is in power.

We should probably reserve judgement until the author reveals more details about the things they were doing on the app store. The article is suspiciously light on details on what exactly they were doing that could have justified it, citing

I think that's the point. Schema migration is traditionally a _very_ risky thing but they're trying to make it come off as "safe", if you're a PlanetScale customer.

The branded keyword game is very sneaky, though, and one place where google can (and does) make a killing. The trick is, if you have a particularly strong or unique brand, you can count on being the number one organic result. HOWEVER, if co

I hear you and I understand the technical aspects of it but I think you're making the false assumption that Google indexing == content is public. That may be the user expectation, but that doesn't mean it's true. Am I off ba

I'm not quite understanding the logic here. Just because another customer (google) was given access, does that mean everyone should have it? Would you rather publishers give google private direct feeds to index?

Unfortunately I don't see a good solution either. Large direct to consumer business models like SaaS or subscriptions are really only sustainable at scale, and even then it's dicey. In a SaaS model, the big fish win and we lose th

Called it [1]. It's a cat-and-mouse game and, unfortunately, advertising is just _that_ lucrative. Privacy-minded browsing will help those that care (for now...), but that's an unsustainable option with the current monetization

The real problem in monolithic codebases isn't that it's large and needs to be separated- it's that the pieces are logically coupled. Microservices force you into separation but do not force decoupling.

Agree. IMO modularity/coupling is the main issue. My issue w/ the microservice architecture is that it solves the modularity problem almost as a side effect of itself but introduces a whole host of new ones that people do not ant
