Yes, very silent. We ordered a replacement for my old work machine and only realised that limitation after - too slow to stop the purchase order. We’ve ordered an ultrawide monitor to compensate. I feel the “Pro” label is somewhat misleadin

Right it looks like 10 months ago it was an actual account, and either got hacked to karma-farm(?) or author decided to use as a throwaway test.

Right, but, unless GitHub itself is majorly compromised (in which case checking the bash checksum doesn’t help), doesn’t having the commit SHA in the URL make the whole exercise pointless anyway?

It does seem to be some sort of automated spam - a mix of the article, the same chunks of disconnected factlets and some random sprinkling of nonsense. Is it possible to flag a whole account? @mods?

This is probably overkill to say but to be sure: Never trust any information from SMS, or from a telephone call (or email) - both SMS and CallerID can both be trivially spoofed, and frequently are. If they have e.g. found out what bank you

People seem to use flagging as a “I don’t like this article” rather than “This is off-topic/not interesting for HN”; see e.g. the multiple stories yesterday about Red Hat pulling out of FSF getting repeatedly buried and flagged; and th

Ah, right, so it doesn't make it automatically GPL2 unless they want to continue to distribute it - and presumably only the original GPL2 licence-holder(s) are in the position to raise the issue of past infringement-via-distribution. A

I expect this whole discussion could have IANAL prepended to it - but it seems like an interesting question - what the licence strictly implies, beyond "It probably doesn't matter as probably nobody will take legal action against

Is there any precedent to what happens, or could happen, if a project changes licence like this in a patch release? Is there any provision for mistakes like this in the GPL, or is everything that has ever used this package now considered &

On the other hand, for the non/new developers I’ve interacted with [non-US], “master” was a confusingly jargonistic name that has raised eyebrows for years. Being the “main” branch seems a much plainer, obvious name, and I think it’s a

I have recently been in, what I think is this situation. I didn’t speak to my boss from April ‘20 through to last month. From my POV he trusted me to work with other teams and choose my own priorities - he’s in quite a unique place in our o

What I don’t like about hive is that as far as I can find out it’s somewhat vague about how much and how the bookshops get (and I consider “choosing after” to be a somewhat darkish pattern) That said, a combination of hive, bookshop.org, wo

From the wording of this article it sounds like it’s explicitly talking about missing non-dark matter, which is separate from dark matter. So it wouldn’t ‘confirm’ your opinion.
