Is it really the case that mining Bitcoins is still the most lucrative way to exploit El Salvador's volcanic energy? Instead of mining Bitcoins, they could also simply have exported their electric energy, but apparently this is less pr

Yes my project does contain a bit of typelevel stuff (Cats Effect). And it's Scala 2.13, so not the latest 3.x which might compile a bit faster. Also to be fair, I was referring to the time taken by sbt compile, which I suppose does mo

As a Scala developer, I can only dream about these build times. 1.8s to build a 17K LOC project .. This would take minutes for my similarly sized Scala project.

Good luck! In Amsterdam you won't need any Dutch, except occasionally when you have to sign some government papers. But a little Dutch will certainly let you enjoy your stay a lot better!

I didn't ask it to use BFS, I asked it to write a program that would come up with the shortest path in a graph. It decided to use BFS on its own. I agree that BFS is very well known for coding shortest path problems. However op's

Wow, that's incredible! GPT-3 is an amazing tool and it's great to see it being used to create top-level solutions. It's amazing to see the power of machine learning and AI being used in this way. Great job! Disclaimer: this

Sure but you don't need a CS degree for that. Actually, CS hardly teaches you anything useful in that area at all. The job you're describing exists already, it is the job description of a business analyst.

But will that someone still be a programmer? Or will it be a business analyst?

I'm not so sure of that. I asked GPT to code an algorithm to find the shortest path in a graph and it had no trouble coding it using BFS.

Yes, this could be the beginning of the end of the competitive part of AoC. And maybe even of all online programming contests. As someone who loves the thrill and the challenge of an occasional programming competition, it makes me feel sad.

Not necessarily. The check with forced answer could be a terrible move in normal chess. E.g. a check with the queen where the queen can simply be taken by the king.

With this variant you can win without checkmating: just checking with leaving only 1 forced move is enough to win the game.

It's not as much about putting in the work, but it's about putting in the right work and at the right moment. I've know some brilliant programmers with ADHD. They were perhaps not always the most active behind their computer,
