Yep, the next government may be evil tyranny, but it's beyond my comprehension why would I have to trust current or any government with the data I'm sure they'll abuse the moment they have it.

I don't understand why you got heavily downvoted. Yes, there are governments that are worse than European, but the decline of European government is the fastest. You may be surprised that the UK is the world leader in the number of peo

The day Mozilla fired Brendan Eich for political reasons, Firefox died. It just took a while for everyone to realise that. That was when they collectively decided that other things are more important to them than the quality and usability o

Yes, that's why I said I don't like their relays. It doesn't even have to be Akamai, you need to trust SimpleX first that not to track your IP. I'd rather use a messenger where something is not possible (or even hard) th

What do you use now? Catch? Briar? Tox? I liked the SimpleX concept, but would prefer its relay server were replaced by Tor or i2p network. And if they used Signal instead of NIH protocol. Actually, the only unique SimpleX feature I really

I'll give you one example, and you can decide for yourself. Mid of this year, I accidentally found out about a great independent language learning app [1]. It clicked for me. It was no bullshit, no gamification, and no distraction. I u

If you need sorting and filtering by date, just add a timestamp to your table instead of misusing an Id column for that.

There's nothing wrong with a sinking population as long as the following is true: - no replacement brought from outside to combat the decline - no obligation for the "society" to take care of non-ancestral elderly

It's not about underage protection. It's about requiring an ID from adults and keeping information about their identity while using social media. But, I suppose you don't care because you don't have something to hide, do

The only appropriate comment here would be invoking Goodwin Law. Everything else is too mild to describe the journey of former democracies to totalitarian regimes.

Why does it matter how old is the author? We should judge software by the quality, not by authors age.

Many people confuse competence and dedication. A competent developer would be more likely to send a PR using the tool with zero friction than to dedicate a few additional hours of his life to create an account and figure out how to use some

Funny, I just asked "Ask Brave", which uses a cheap LLM connected directly to its search engine, and it got it right without any issues. It shows once again that for common searches, (indexed) data is the king, and that's whe

No, I don't dismiss anything. It's just, I'd rather play with my own toys instead of using someone else's toy. Especially since I don't think it would ever grow up to be something more than a toy. For serious work,

To be more pedantic here, Google doesn't have to publish anything anywhere. According to the GPL, the only thing they would have to do is provide source code to the users of their software upon their request.

Agree 100%. I gave up on the GPL before I even knew what exactly it was about because of the zealotry of many of its proponents. I would even go as far as saying that without the FSF, GPL-like licenses would be much more common.
