Really reminds me of Uplink, a sort of hacking RPG: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uplink_(video_game)

As a global community we should come to and express the (IMO) correct conclusion that Japan did an amazing (perhaps the best) job of containing this, and it was still the right thing for them to postpone the 2020 olympics.

The point of patents is to protect IP for a while. If the company was fraudulent, who are we protecting? Whoever now owns the IP, it’s as if they purchased stolen goods.

Same. I can no longer just schedule it to run unattended. First I must “prepare the house to be roomba’d”.

I stand by my assertion that it’s extremely impractical for most people to reconfigure their lives in this way.

Yes, I agree it counts as a tracking device. My point was that it’s probably extremely impractical for most people in the US to forgo a license plate.
518.
by minitoar 7y ago
I suspect both of these things are nearly impossible in the US. At some point you will have to talk to police, if only to identify yourself. At some point you will be tracked, if only by your license plate, or soon your face.

Perhaps instead of “many existing social programs” I should’ve said “some”. I agree food stamps and housing are good candidates to be replaced at least partially by UBI.
520.
by minitoar 7y ago
Where did you get the idea that all current social programs would continue unchanged if something as radical as UBI were introduced?
521.
by minitoar 7y ago
My understanding of UBI was it’s a replacement for many existing social programs.

SimCopter must have the been first RPG I put a lot of time into. Kinda messed up and buggy but I had a lot of fun, I think.

What are the property turn over rates like in Santa Clara county, though? Does your source have granular information like that?

I also enjoy the meta here of using a technically sophisticated visual medium to portray the oldest, maybe most primitive medium.

It would be more correct to add “was” since it happened in the past (the act of leaving it blank). Not necessary at all because “left blank” is already past tense.

For those that do not know, the Bloomin' Onion is an iconic appetizer available at Outback Steakhouse. It's a battered deep fried onion that's been sort of julienned to look like a flower.

We mostly deal with this by keeping the data inside an AWS/Azure region as much as possible. You pay to get it in there, and you pay for storage, but you can access it for free within the same region.

It's probably because those items come in a "variety pack" with e.g. 6 of each flavor to make an 18 pack of 3 different flavors. We have this problem with the green tea flavored Honest Teas. If you're ordering from Costc

Right, that’s sort of what I was getting at with the word “arbitrary”. Compared to a general purpose db the limitations on what can be joined are pretty severe, if only because of performance considerations.
539.
by minitoar 7y ago
That makes sense, they really are just relational databases optimized for certain tasks, with corresponding limitations e.g. they don't support arbitrary joins.

How would you categorize something like ClickHouse or Interana or Druid? Columnar I guess, but then the description of Column-family in the article doesn't match up with my experience of how those work.
