My understanding is that if the judge thinks one party is not cooperating in discovery, or is purposefully hiding evidence, he can issue a default judgement solely on that basis (regardless of all the other aspects of the case). Since the

I don't think calling Apple out on selling a faulty $3000 laptop and refusing to repair it counts as histrionics or spam.

I agree, and when I worked in that world it was a huge pain in the ass. Users don't care about RFCs though, they just want the Internet to work, so you end up doing something that's pragmatic but kludgey. As I pointed out in another comme

I'm not sure I completely understand your situation, but turning down the MTU on an intermediate router is rarely a good fix for PMTU issues. If you have web servers, you may consider turning down the MTU on the Internet facing interfaces.

PMTU discovery on the Internet is generally unreliable. Very few people understand that it exists, and even fewer understand how it actually works. Most ADSL (PPPoE) providers rewrite the TCP MSS on TCP SYN packets traveling over their ne

I did read the whole post. It was very informative. I wasn't aware that EC2 did not have ECC RAM. My question was directed at shin_lao's policy about not providing a "warranty" for his customers running on non-ECC hardware.

No offense to the Art.sy team, but this is just Heroku marketing copy. It lacks the detail we typically see on these sorts of high scalability "how we did it" posts. Non-trivial applications scale non-trivially, and when someone comes alo

Reservoir sampling allows you to return a specific number of samples regardless of the size of the input rather than a specific fraction of samples (which is what your awk script does).

I've never heard of Mark Suster before today and I'm sorry if I offended you by criticizing one of your role models. Though if you reread his post, he does mention impertinence as being a characteristic of entrepreneurs. Maybe Mark Suster

Sometimes (most times?) you want to do the analysis in real-time in which case it helps to be fluent in tcpdump. Also, whether you're looking at the wireshark gui or tcpdump in a terminal, you're essentially looking at text. So a high res

It looks to me like the lowest hanging fruit in terms of reducing the program's run time is in the PPM output code. https://github.com/sol-prog/async_tutorial/blob/master/ppm.c... Three calls to ostream::write() for each and every pixel.

I don't see anything like a Java compiler in the Doppio source. edit: I get it. In the demo they are using a Java compiler from Sun that is itself a Java program running in the Doppio JVM. Neat.
