Here in Sweden you get 16 months to split between the parents. It amazes me how crappy the benefits are in even the most "progressive" Bay Area companies, like Facebook trying to recruit with "25 vacation days", makes me laugh.

There are strong libertarian strands in several swedish parties so there are some comrades in arms. Quoting Ayn Rand in parliament has happened. But even as a libertarian leaning swede I find myself quite annoyed by Uber. In the 1990s, IIRC

We have custom plugin to send message to the MQ. Other Jenkins-instances running the same plugin will receive the message and can act on them according to the configuration. Currently we mostly use this to send internal release notification

We have started using a MQ to send messages between different Jenkins instances. For example to have long running test executions on a dedicated jenkins-instance so the main build-jenkins can be restarted without affecting the tests.

This is just plain wrong. The means of production in Sweden have always been held in private hands, the one attempt to change this ended in spectacular failure. The big exception would be LKAB which is the owner of the iron ore mines in nor

It depends if you are a citizen of EU, a Nordic country or Switzerland or not. I assume that you are not so in that case you would need a job offer first, apply for a work permit, then come and work. The process is described here: http://w

Sweden has been a close ally of USA ever since the end of WWII. This was necessary due to our location near the USSR. We might not rely on direct aid but with a small (nowadays) military and an export oriented economy being friends with USA

It's getting better, but most of the code I see from TCS in our code base is not very good. However I see lots of crappy code from all over the world so. Main problem is that the best developers don't go to TCS or we just don't see them.

Yes, I would say so. The software developer pool in Stockholm is running really dry. So the market is really hot and it has been this way for a few years now. Here at $MEGA_CORP we did some recruiting recently and we hired from all over Eur

There is still a physical RF layer (which is not software) and then you need antennas where you most likely end up in more patents.

Knowing how many people it takes to develop a eNodeB is even more impressive. Normally it would be n * 100 engineers (or even n * 1000) working on these projects.

LTE (as with most 3GPP specs) are heavily patented. All patents are available under FRAND licenses however.

Personally I don't approve of _software_ patents but these ones don't bother me that much. I don't really see this different from all the other patent licensing deals we have with the rest of the (wireless) industry. These are part of the w

I doubt there are many software patents in this portfolio. Most of these patents most likely cover the L1/L2 protocols for LTE and other wireless standards. These are normally available through FRAND agreements. Disclaimer: I work for one o

The Verizon iPhone was running on 3GPP2/CDMA network, this does not have SIM card. It is the 3GPP (note the missing 2) track that uses SIM cards. The 3GPP track is the most common track outside North America where the CDMA was strong. For 4

Not on paper but Shawn Pearce (Gerrit/repo maintainer) said it at GitTogether 2011. But wanting to kill something off and actually doing it, they are of course different. Also, if you do use Gerrit (even though you don't seem to like it) it

Well, since the maintainer of repo wants to kill it off, it is perhaps not surprising that it is badly maintained at the moment.
