I like your views on philosophy, and I recently read and liked that Hadot book. I'm guessing that you studied philosophy formally, but I'm curious, what do you do now? (My email is in my bio if you want to continue off HN)

Maybe look into Epicureanism. In particular, before you read wikipedia or stanford's encyclopedia, I'd recommend this letter[1] written by Epicurus himself. [1]: http://www.epicurus.net/en/menoeceus.html

If only someone warned us about shit like this... Some guy was jabbering about it all the time but I don't remember his name. I think he wrote a text editor or something...

Thanks, I had some HiDPI trouble when I tried it previously but apparently I misconfigured some fonts so it works now. Pretty close to what I'm looking for. It's a shame that it hasn't seen that much work.

Try to install freetype 2.7. It's a bit of a hassle(you need to get the source rpm from fedora 26 and build it), but will improve text rendering a lot.

I'm using Fedora again as my desktop after some years on OS X. Things that I'd like to see: * A better email app. Currently none can be said to work very well. I'm actually considering mutt at this point * A better Gnome Cale

With the latest freetype ( https://www.freetype.org/freetype2/docs/subpixel-hinting.htm... ), and hinting off, there's not a lot to complain about.

Another reading of this paragraph is that it's essentially douchebaggery.

I actually like React, but be aware people were saying the same shit about Angular until relatively recently. The hype cycle is real.

Re: the C extensions: Since the performance is so much better, would it make sense to replace gems that use c extensions with pure ruby implementations? Would that still yield better performance than MRI?

I'd recommend a classical treatment of presocratic philosophy. I'm watching the Heraclitus episode and he completely misrepresents him. The sparseness of fragments that remain make it very easy to read into them what you like, and
