It can go worse - some cheap and badly designed Android phones which download updates from every month when you first buy it until the current month, so maybe 10+ updates, but they aren't deltas (diffs) but full images. Ridiculous on s

This is yet another reason why CGNAT (Carrier grade NAT) is cancer on the internet and needs to die.

If they managed to get the middle mile congested with 10 Mbps customers I will give them the "A$$hole of the millennium" award right here right now.

With DSL, it is trivial to see which speed is assigned to you and which speed is the maximum possible on your line. If your measured speed is lower than your "Actual bitrate" as shown by the modem, something must've gone terr

I'm sorry, what?! xDSL does not have splitters, except the only one in your household that splits the POTS frequencies for the phone and the rest is passed off to the modem. And of course your physical twisted pair wire goes from your

This post sounds so much like my situation, but just offset by 2 decades. After suffering with LTE, xDSL, I bought myself an uplink connection in the city and put an antenna on a building there that sends me 100 Mbps wirelessly to an antenn

I hope you do know that most consumers don't even have their own router, let alone anything that can isolate devices or block certain traffic.

Yes but that is unrelated to net neutrality. NN doesn't prevent a carrier from offering a plan with Unlimited* data where the asterisk means "up to 25GB at maximum speed, lowered to 128/64 Kbps after exceeding the limit, unti

It works for me. Are you sure it's not just your corporate firewall blocking the whole tld? I've seen it done, since .ws domains are cheap and rarely seen, it's usually a phishing page. And so some IT departments block it.

You might have missed my point. The fact that Germany has bad internet is completely unrelated to the manufacturers of equipment that German telcos use. And of course, you should not compare next gen access infrastructure with xDSL, as they

If it's any consolation, it is just as bad in other countries, when using Huawei equipment. This is not due to technology, this is due to carriers and ISPs. Those two are completely separate from tech companies making networking hardwa

@OP did you try calling support to report the problem? It's almost impossible to diagnose ANY internet problems (not related to your own equipment of course) and the ISP has tools and access to do it. In any case, it's much easier

I'm genuinely happy for you in that case. And it's great your ISP doesn't use Huawei OLTs which only work with Huawei ONUs, so you can plug the fiber directly into the ERx and setup a connection either as IPoE, PPPoE or just

Yes, my point was that you cannot "just" use your own equipment. There are many hoops to jump through. Also, most widely sold Unifi equipment is expensive, cheaper devices are very rare to find in limited markets. I would not cons

Yes but the key is to have an ISP that [is forced to] allows you to get your own modem. Also most of the world is on DOCSIS 3.0, so any older than that is DOCSIS 2.0 which would be max 50 Mbps which is not ... nice, and that's DSL terr

That is not a common scenario, most people in the world get an ONT with an integrated ONU. For example Huawei HG8245Q2. So in your case obviously you can just plug in any router. But a lot of people get it all in one device. And most ISPs d

But where do you plug in the fiber? Where does one even get GPON CPE on the market? And how do you clone the serial number of the ONU?
