Plastics and overfishing are the least of our worries (though not to be dismissed) -- we know how to stop those (though we might find the means to do so unpalatable). The elephant in the room (whale in the fish pond?) is ocean acidification

I'll bet Swiss Money that Bayer knew exactly what they were getting into before buying and (upper management) decided to go ahead anyway. Presumably they've done the math and think it's worth it, having priced the risk in. Sc

In fairness I think it's a fairly new thing for individuals (as opposed to large companies) to even be able to buy offsets, but I'm betting it will become a much larger trend quite quickly, perhaps even required in some jurisdicti

Genuine question here: Do you, or would you, buy CO2 offsets to do something about the horrendous carbon footprint of your 250k miles/year?

Fascinating -- thank you. I was not aware of this collection. I'd surmise that careful attention also has to be paid to cross-pollination requirements. Many fruit trees require a compatible pollinator, frequently of a different variety

As the linked page stated, though, the point is neither productivity nor commercial agronomics, the point is preservation of heirloom varieties that are precisely not interesting to commercial growers. I think this is a very important eff
