Yep, it is very uncommon to see IDNs used in Denmark, even though æøå are very common in words. As you say, they’re usually transposed to avoid dealing with IDN pain. It’s bad enough in web browsers, if you try to use IDNs in e-mail, it’s a

Sure, but if you have any custom JavaScript that needs to load before the page can render, using a CDN for just the JS libraries does not really help. If you want the benefit of a CDN, you need to put your own code up there. And if you’re d

Sure, but there’s different degrees, from a little inspiration to an outright copy. In this case, I think it’s far towards the copy-end. If you presented a case of OnePlus Buds to the average consumer as Apple AirPods, would they know the d

The smart-phone form factor is largely determined by the rectangular screen, and for the cameras to be useful, they have to be on the back and/or front. The keyboards are very different in design between Google and Apple, and many phon

To be fair, OnePlus Buds appear to be counterfeit AirPods in everything but the name. Same shape, same white plastic, same metal endcaps, same black dots, even the same case design. In other words, a straight-up rip-off of Apple’s design wi

From my understanding, to adopt Smalltalk, I’d have to give up my editor, my SCM, my code review practises, my deployment strategies, my whole way of working. Learning a new language is already a big ask. If you then also require the would-

Hard to interpret this as anything but petty spite from Apple’s side. There’s no need to terminate their developer accounts for a violation of the App Store policy, nor does Apple usually do so. I don’t generally like Epic, and used to be

Getting an application to the state where you can use feature flags for any new functionality is a massive and continuous effort. Any change in data structures or APIs become a huge pain. Whether this is worth it, depends a lot on the parti

All that “bloat” enables us to do (much) more with less developer hours. The balance is the same as ever, developer time vs. compute power. As compute power gets ever cheaper, and developer time still costs the same, we put bigger burdens o

I wonder what Quora’s staff spend their time on. The site is a simple Q&A app, and appears essentially unchanged the last many years and the content is all user generated. Not a huge productivity loss to go all-remote if you’re not prod

Using x.y.z version numbers does not imply semver. I agree that semver as defined only really makes sense for libraries. When working on internal code, “breaking changes” are rarely a concern. We instead use it to mean <major overhaul>

1. HTML is read by parsers 99.9% of the time. Rare is the human who cares to “View Source” on a site. 2. If you have a decent editor, those quotes are inserted automatically, so no busywork required.

Yep, I can imagine lots of dev-tools choking on the missing quotes. Plus if you have a good editor, you don’t generally need to type the quotes yourself. And +1 on the “stop using”. Ordering people around is not a good way to convince anyon
