As a pragmatic developer, I love WordPress. it's the most productive programming platform I've found, and with PhpStorm to develop with it, I'm come to find it rather elegant, albeit not what most PHP non-WP programmers want

WordPress doesn't do minor and major versions; they just add 0.1 to the last release. In general it has worked very well for them and the WordPress community.

As someone who is a full-time WordPress platform architect, I completely agree with @deathspin here.

I've frequently heard designers, developers and VPs of Engineering -- which I'll collectively call "builders" -- argue that a product should have fewer features and thus should be "simple." But I honestly can&#

I support Eric here. Singleton make sense in WordPress specifically for encapsulating plugins. In WordPress plugins can never have more than one instance so it's really a moot point to expect them to be anything else. Outside of WordPress p

"Why half-assedly try to hide the fact that you're using them by wrapping them into a singleton?" I may be misunderstanding your context for the above comment but when I use singleton classes for WordPress plugins I do so to avoid potential

It's interesting that you mention this: "Yes we don't have an out of the box CMS aimed at the WP market yet but that just means someone needs to make it." I've got 3 "generations" of developer ecosystems under my belt[1][2][3] and from that

For some it's more important the market they are addressing than the language they are using. WordPress is written in PHP and has over 17% of the web at this point. If you want to address the WordPress market as the author of the referenced

It's not only other hackers that are beneficial to meet. It's potential employees and potential customers. For example, there were many non-hackers at ProductCamp (which I was unfortunately too sick to attend.) Did you go to that? BTW, what

@wehriam: I'm with Russell on this. It doesn't sounds like you actually read the article. Russell's "read Steve Blank" is some of the best advice he could give. I'm constantly advising local startups to first go get customers instead of fir
