Person X is a hypothetical game developer. Person X is not new to software development, but does not have much experience developing games. The best way for Person X to learn is to look at the source code for a game similar to the one he/sh

Nowhere does GNU or the FSF advocate preventing the user from doing as they please; the user is more than welcome to use a DRM-infected system if they choose to do so. We simply discourage it.

I'm aware (my girlfriend owns a color one), but they still run their own proprietary software atop of the OS, in addition to providing DRM-infected eBooks (but you have the option to put your own eBooks on the device, which can be DRM-free)

I have an 8-month old son. I hope he grows up to enjoy physical books rather than eBooks. My reasons are many. 1. Most eBooks today are DRM-laden and try to lock you into a specific vendor. Since I'm sure most readers here are well aware of

You seem to be pairing non-free with corporations/research entities and free with "random" hackers. That does not have to be the case. What is preventing those research groups from releasing the source code for their devices (and preferably

Karen Sandler of the GNOME Foundation discussed an issue similar to this nearly a year ago at OSCON (2011): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFZGpES-St8 Indeed, the first thing that came to mind when I saw this presentation was RMS' commen

growt's link does an excellent job of illustrating it. Ultimately, how the border is joined at the corners is undefined by the specification: http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-background/#border-style > Note: This specification does not

I love the creativity that results from CSS' limitations (or, arguably, its flexibility). Neat trick. It took me a moment to realize exactly what was going on to make this work. For those interested: borders are styled in such a way that th

I don't see that as a problem; I just think that Git has built up a certain user base that they should continue to appeal to with their website.

I agree; I feel rather disappointed by this move. The layout feels cookie-cutter to me. If anything, it just looks like an effort to "sell" the project to businesses, especially with the list of projects/companies at the bottom. The no-js d

Many employers do not even care if you have a degree. I remember when I applied for my first full-time, non-freelancing job. I do not have a degree (I had been in the field for long enough to feel that I had significant experience), so I wo

The argument is not about equality; Linux is by far much larger in nearly every regard than GNU is. The argument is toward correctness . No matter how small GNU is, "GNU" describes an entire operating system, which is comprised of many com

It is disappointing to see "GNU/Linux" comments consistently harassed. Consider the history. The GNU project was conceived in 1983 to create a full free (as in freedom) operating system. This operating system combined many different project
