This is just the next iteration of hangouts, which was already pivoting to enterprise, re-branded. Kinda necessary, since hangouts doesn't really suggest business use.

Great comment, thanks for the clarification. Wasn't trying to say that 20% is a magic number, just that it cemented the idea for me that engineering time, and self-directed engineering time, is incredibly valuable for everyone that can

The coolest thing I took away from the SRE book was this progression of system operations from manual, to scriptable, to automated, to a fourth category I hadn't even known existed: autonomous. The idea that you can keep moving up this

There's been a lot of talk in the compliance gcp slack on this, seems like a lot of products are being audited and announcements will be made at Next.

I think it's funny that big Xeon upgrades seem to always occur approximately 8 months after big Power architecture blog posts.

There's more than a year of notice, and there's still a solution that provides substantially the same service. Long term can't mean forever, especially for services that can't support themselves.

I think most interestingly, in order to create a competitive search engine, you would need not only a nationwide, but indeed a globe-spanning optical network.

The spanner announcement mentioned offering direct access to the TrueTime api sometime in the not too distant future. Edit: Quote from Brewer's post: "Next steps For a significantly deeper dive into the details, see the white pape

If you are an active target of a tier 1 state, your endpoint will be compromised, your decrypted communication will be read, and no cryptosystem will prevent this.

I think the amp partner term is silly. If akamai wanted to, they could host their own cache. There is no evidence that Google is doing anything but encouraging cdns to do so.
