You pay a little more for hardware, but Apple usually outdoes itself in support. At the 3 year mark I decided to replace the optical drive on my macbook with a big hard drive and use an SSD to boot. Three weeks later the computer is dead. I

Also, Sellout.Woot has had an iPad 16 WiFi today and at least one WiFi+3G model during today's WootOff. People looking for sub-400 iPads are in luck.

I think that Steve Jobs himself has already set the groundwork for breaking the ties with (a local computer copy of) iTunes down the road. Jobs talked about Cars and Trucks. The desktop, and many laptop computers, are trucks. They can do th

Haven't a number of courts ruled that an IP address isn't a person? I feel like that should apply here. Edit: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/02/court-confir... I guess they don't want to sue the visitors just reveal identity

For all the press Mahalo gets I've never seen a Mahalo page show up in the first page or two of Google results. Maybe I'm not looking for the right stuff, but ehow, wikihow etc. all would show up before adding them to Personal Blocklist.

Searching in the various app stores feels like the time before Google came to web search. You type your query into each of several OK search apps and see what happens. MLB just released it's annual application: MLB.com At Bat 11. Say I don'

Whoops. Well, even better! In slightly related news, I wonder if this is what came out of the TechCrunch rumors last year about free Kindles for Prime customers: http://techcrunch.com/2010/02/12/amazon-wants-to-give-a-free... Maybe we'll

That could be a powerful offering if Amazon can boost the library a bit. $89 per year for Amazon Prime with 2 day shipping and streaming is a few bucks cheaper than a year of Netflix streaming only (7.99*12=95.88) and potentially much more

Also, coffee and tea are drinks that people will accept even if they aren't exactly a person's preferred style/flavor. People will order and drink coffee at any restaurant when the choice is generic coffee vs. decaf. Brand certainly helps b

I have the same thought, but had really wanted a "book safe" since watching The Matrix. Enter an old college textbook. Selling for $0.01 on Amazon and now 3 editions old. It was a fun project. Any book still usable though, I don't have the

Even for people who call it a big iPod touch; the touch starts at $229. The bigger screen and battery aren't free. $499 is a fair price, even if 16GB of memory is a bit stingy. Funny to remember before the iPad introduction people were expe

I took a few CS classes at a liberal arts college and those exams were miserable. 3 hours on friday nights a few times a semester. That was part of the reason I switched from CS. Same thing; no compile no grade. And there would be some nerv

I'll second that. Even the next step of taking out the optical drive isn't too tough, at least on a pre-unibody white macbook. Runs a bit hot/loud with 2 drives though.

A friend who just joined the Linux Foundation saved $400 or $500 on a Lenovo with the Linux discount. They don't advertise the exact discounts publicly, but if you were joining anyway, or already a member, that could be something to pursue.

It will be interesting to see what this does to Verizon's Droid pricing. If Verizon adopts similar plans to AT&T with a cheap, limited, data add-on, a Verizon iPhone could be just as big a boost to Android.
