He’s being forced to resign from an advocacy organization for being a shithead who defends child rape. It sets the precedent that you can’t defend reprehensible acts and still be considered a community leader. We are all better off for it.

Yes. He involved a lot of other rich people in his crimes. This was OK as long as he kept it under wraps, but once people started really looking into his activities there was a major risk of the fallout affecting others.

It would lower costs, and it would also put them on an equal playing field with the other domestic manufacturers, rather than having to compete with other companies who have lower costs due to not having such expensive union health care pla

Yes, I mean GM. Would be a great way to bypass all the fuss and expense of these fancy health plans.

One wonders why they aren’t heavily lobbying the government to enact something like Medicare for All.

It’s different; it’s much worse. Epstein was retail evil. Saudi Arabia is wholesale evil. Unfortunately, human nature makes it much easier to grasp retail-level evil, so we’re much more horrified by it.

The rich are touchable if and only if they harm other rich people. See also: Bernie Madoff.

Are we talking legally or morally? Extending your argument, it is probably not possible to trick someone into murdering someone, because murder requires intent. But it’s definitely possible to trick someone into killing someone. With rape,

I don’t get it. If it wasn’t rape (statutory or otherwise) then what is RMS saying isn’t “totally cool” about it?

Well, he spent a bunch of words arguing it’s not rape. I suppose that is slightly different.

Surely an autistic person is still capable of learning these things. If he is not capable of that, then he’s disastrously unqualified to be leading an advocacy organization.

These are not “controversial opinions.” Controversial opinions are things like “Chernobyl wasn’t that bad” or “abortion is murder.” This is just a guy defending the rape of children.

He also spends a lot of time arguing that statutory rape shouldn’t count. So if he thinks that’s all Minsky did, it seems entirely fair to summarize that as “totally cool.” Not to mention that if Minsky did in fact have sex with a slave who

Best case scenario for Minsky, if he did have sex with this girl, is that he was tricked into raping her. But RMS isn’t going with that. He’s going with “not rape.”

He keeps saying it shouldn’t qualify as sexual assault or rape. If it’s not that then what is it?

“...the most plausible scenario is that she presented herself to him as entirely willing.” The context is an underage sex slave. Having sex with her is rape by definition in two different ways.

That’s not the issue. The issue is that this hypothetical is used to argue that having sex with her was totally fine.

The whole thing is about RMS defending child rape on the basis that legal age limits are stupid and that it’s not rape if the child is willing. If you managed to miss all that then maybe try again.

He’s not just imagining a scenario. He’s saying that this is the most likely scenario, and that the fact that she presented as willing makes everything totally cool.

Jesus Christ, HN. I read this article and my reaction was: damn, I knew RMS was weird and opinionated, but I didn’t know he was evil. I come here to see how others react to this revelation and what do I find? “By golly, what is the world co

Essentially everyone wants to change the system. The problem is that half of the voters want to fix it by having the government provide universal coverage, and half want to fix it by getting government out of the picture as much as possible

Programming had essentially zero real-world impact before the 1950s. The analogy you’re trying to make is that vaccines existed but had virtually no real world impact before the 1960s. Did I get that right? Because that’s what I understood,

I’m not sure about that. The death rate from smallpox was unbelievably high before the vaccine, and it was eliminated or nearly so in many countries well before this supposed 1960s date. Certainly more recent advancements have been wonderfu

Programming wasn’t saving thousands of lives in the 1840s. Vaccines were is fairly wide use long before the 1960s. Deaths from smallpox dropped sharply though the 1800s and it was eliminated entirely in many countries.
