Unity and XNA are very different. XNA is a very basic library to roll your own game engine. Unity is a game engine that handles scenes, game objects, physics, animations, complex 3d animations and very sophisticated graphics effects all ble

Wrong. Xamarin Studio and MonoDevelop are the exact same code base. The only difference is that Xamarin Studio contains the iOS and Android plugins, plus adds a Xamarin Branding (branding is completely pluggable in MonoDevelop)

Do you mind emailing me a list of questions, to make sure I address all of them? My blogging has gone down, due to twitter mostly, but this is a good chance to talk about our open source work. Cheers! Miguel

We are actively working on F# support for our products. We have built on the great work that the F# community has done and will be shipping it in future versions of the product. We are looking at a beat of our F# support for March.

C# is compiler to IL. The IL linker operates over the IL code (typically C# produced, but we are working now on adding also F#) and produces the minimal set needed to run. Then we compile the resulting linked IL to ARM code, and then we run

In my experience, all the code is written in C#. The only time when folks use Objective-C is when they are bringing some existing library they found on GitHub to their project. And even in those cases, they dont actually write Objective

While we make our cross platform libraries like Xamarin.Mobile run on all platforms, including Windows, we do not actually provide an IDE for Windows Phone apps. Microsoft already provides a complete and capable product for that space.

We do not actually provide a lowest-common-denominator. It is simpler to think of Xamarin as providing you with: * C# language on iOS, Android, Mac * 1:1 API bindings to whatever is native on a given platform. On iOS, the CocoaTouch APIs

"var" is a shorthand to not declare the type when it can be inferred, in most cases to avoid Foo foo = new Foo(). The point is that it avoid repetitive typing, while still preserving type safety and everything that comes with it: compiler

It is! We are hard at work in upgrading both MonoTouch and MonoDroid to use Mono 3.0's compilers and class libraries. That is why you have seen a flurry of commits to Mono's master tree. We are hoping to have a preview in late January.

It is easy to be confused, because PCL is confusing. My personal preference is to just link source files and use partial classes (very much like the Linux kernel uses "pluggable" files to create a kernel) to create a product. The problem is
