I'm hoping one day to find an explanation of what music really is; why do certain patterns of sounds appeal to us; why do we share a sense of melody, harmony, rhythm. Ideally, this explanation would ignore centuries of historical cruft, sta

FFM was never an option in the OS X window manage, outside Terminal.app, as it was fundamentally incompatible with the Classic event model, and I presume Carbon as well. There are some third-party hacks which attempt an imperfect emulation

Quit spreading FUD. We know. We have a pretty good idea. We can look at what happened in Portugal since 2001: http://www.businessinsider.com/portugal-drug-policy-decrimin...

You would do well to assume the question isn't meant to be self-contradictory, and find a meaningful intepretation under this assumption. In this case, "before the others" could be extended to mean "before any other areas".

There is a great explanation of IO lists in Learn You Some Erlang [1], but in short — an IO list is functionally equivalent to a string builder, allowing you to accumulate individual strings in O(1) time. [1]: http://learnyousomeerlang.com

I would argue Haskell is more powerful than Scala, and also more readable, for the most part. You can certainly find examples of unreadable Haskell, specifically in the vicinity of ivory towers — there must be something in the air up there

You joke, but Scala's complexity is a very real problem. Specifically, abuse of implicits can make trying to understand Other People's Code quite the nightmare. Even reading the function type specifications in the official Scala docs is a

No, this is not similar at all. An image of a tape reel is to recording audio as an icon of a floppy disk is to saving documents — a lazy visual shortcut, requiring a non-trivial semantic context. What is the percentage of humans alive toda

Michael O'Church seems quite happy to share what went on. What's stopping you? Michael O'Church's arguments are internally consistent, and more persuasive than vague statements impugning his character.
