Does Google Voice number portability apply to: - pre-paid mobile numbers? - VOIP carriers?* - mobile numbers that were previously landline numbers? - all US-based mobile carriers or just a handful? * I remember reading that some VOIP carrie

Tarsnap costs 2-3x more than Amazon S3, and S3 is already several times more expensive than it should be. What is the advantage of Tarsnap over S3 and one of its many clients?

Design is important. You should be offering to make the designer an equal partner. If you can't afford a designer, then launch the product with the design you have, which is not terrible.

Rancilio Silvia is very low tech and hackable. Solid, simple, built to last. The design doesn't change from year to year. http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/21/rancilios-silvia-espresso... http://www.make-digital.com/make/vol04/?pg=124#pg

The idea of the phone as a dock for the tablet is an elegant design concept. Let's hope it supports SIP. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/voicesw/ps6789/ps...

SIPSorcery looks useful, based on what i've pieced together so far. The web site could use a little less (or more) emphasis on the Silverlight UI (depending on the vision for the project). edit: i need to read the sipsorcery docs. it's no

I read that Guava is a fork or a simple copy of Sipdroid, which probably explains why Gizmo was ashamed to market it.

"works the same way any call would" is the problem. The Google Voice app could easily work better. Why doesn't it? You do realize that it's possible to initiate a call through the Google Voice website, which then rings a soft-client (Giz

The best thing about Google Voice is Gizmo SIP support. It makes Google Voice almost useful. I say "almost" because Google Voice carefully limits the user's ability to make pure VoIP calls (to protect the wireless carriers). For example,

Is the Twilio cost of $0.03 per minute in addition to the per minute costs of your phone line? Why isn't SIP or IAX access allowed? It seems very expensive and restricted.

to answer my own question ... Apparently the concern is that the rock layer above the oil is thin. (Any sources for how thin?). A nuke could fracture the rock layer and release all the oil at once.

OpenWRT is more configurable than DD-WRT. you might also look at http://www.fon.com/ . The Fonera 2.0 is close to the service you describe. The Fonera routers are built with OpenWRT, coincidentally.

The number of comments trashing the FOSS position towards video codecs is strange given that it's equally popular to trash the proprietary flash player. Maybe this thread is a statistical anomaly or people are just inconsistent.
