Well that's a different argument. The irony is I use git for all my projects, too, due to the network effect. It's vastly easier to go with the flow rather than swim against the tide. But every time I have to wrestle with un-fucki

Yes. Google's implementation of email. One of the most highly used email implementations on the planet. That was just one example, I've seen corporate Exchange systems do the same. Are they not professional? If one of the biggest

Absolutely. I've seen teams evaluate multiple revision systems before starting projects and each one has decided on Mercurial based on its technical merits. I'll take it on trust that git is a perfect solution for linux kernel dev

That's unfortunately just not true. It does, and has, failed silently. I've had Google silently swallow emails before, both sending and receiving. It's not fun.

Yeah, I saw this coming when they sent around a survey a couple of months back asking what people thought of their current pricing and what price increases they would stomach before ditching it. An extra £16 per year for IntelliJ seems OK a

Every generation seems to think natural language programming is a good idea and comes up with all sorts of ways of trying to do it. They then flail around for a few years before gradually finding out why it sucks and won't work. The sp

Amen. And debt is a really un-useful term for this, too, IMHO. More often than not, when you're down the line and dealing with the concequences of prior shortcuts the optimal solution you can think of now is different to the one you co

Or, presumably, people could box you in by anchoring themselves around you? Similarly, I give it 5 mins before magnetising to others makes people uncomfortable, or is used for downright harassment. Ask any woman what it's like to go to

I could outline one for me, that I'd look for, but I was asking more about what the authors of the tool had thought about and catered for. The dangers are all too real with online social spaces; douchebaggery, perving and harassment.

One thing these types of tools also need to consider is online safety. I've seen others implement things like personal boundaries, hiding from others, and avoiding being boxed in by others. Just to name a few. I couldn't see anyth

Curious as to why this is getting downvoted? It's literally how the economics of open source software works. Vanishingly few companies put back anything like the value they extract from the open source ecosystem and many, many projects
