It's a myth. Amstrad computers were already using 3 inch drives in 1984, way before 3.5 inch ones became popular. The drives were chosen due to their similarity to 5.25 drives, so that existing controller chips could be reused. Due to

You just need to specify a secondary address of "1" when loading the file, so that it loads into the memory area specified in the header instead of the default location. This was rarely used with the tape though, but rather with a

Living in Europe, I don't give a damn about US sanctions. However, I block traffic from Iran on all my servers for the simple reason that almost all attacks on my website (and if you run a semi-popular website, you get attacked on a da

But, for a person with autism, behaving in this way is practically impossible. I wouldn't even know where to begin and how.

From what you are describing, it seems to me that Iran is practically hell on earth for autistic people.

Yes, it's similar with banking, you just use OverstapService.nl and they will automatically switch all your direct debits to your new account. Worked for me like a charm when I switched banks, of around two dozen direct debits only one

No, the Instagram account was completely unrelated to my FB account (different email, different browser). Every other tool I have ever used over the last decade showed my IP location correctly, so I don't think there are any mistakes i

I have recently had a need to create an Instagram account. I logged in from my home IP and it was recognized as coming from Vietnam (my home IP has been the same since 2016, always with the same ISP). Everything was in Vietnamese and I had

ICANN policies only govern global domains. Country domains set their own policies; for example, .eu expiration period is 45 days, not 30. WHO IS policies also vary wildly, for example .de domains do not show registration date in the WHO IS

The presented domain expiration model looks like .com and other global domains. What about .de, .uk and countless other country domains, each having its unique expiration policy? Will it work with them, or only with .com domains?

Not in the days when these BIOSes were written, but in the early eighties, yes; the original IBM MDA card had only 4kB memory (enough for just one screen of text) because memory was expensive. So sticking to 80x25 was kind of important back

Because 80x25 uses 4kB of RAM (one byte for character + another byte for attributes) whereas 80x30 would grow beyond 4kB so you would need 8kB. Maybe not a big deal in a VGA card, but everything was standardized on 80x25 from the olden days

It's not a graphics mode. It is just a resolution from the graphics mode, repurposed for the text mode. The reason possibly being the 640x480 resolution is universally supported while 720x400 is not - for example my HDMI TV can still d

Something I was wondering while reading the article: why? Why would you create a 8x19 font if you already have a 8x16 don't? The answer is: so that you can use a standard 640x480 VGA resolution instead of of 640x400 to display 25 lines

I couldn't find this information in the article: how are these phones connected to the network? If there is no cellular coverage in the area (as the article claims), then how was it achieved?

This kind of resembles "racing the beam" that was required to program the Atari 2600 - timing your assembly code just right to modify the video display at a precise location as the screen is being drawn. Kudos to the authors!

I have never used the butterfly keyboard 700C (my first ThinkPad was the 365X) but I immediately fell in love with the trackpoint since day one. I will never go back to a mouse. Fortunately you can buy USB keyboards with trackpoints so that

OK, that makes sense - the game has a better playability if it starts on an average level and "learns" over time.

So basically it has a table of all possible moves, and after losing a game, it deletes a move that led to the defeat? Then why not simply have a smaller table of moves right from the start, with losing moves already removed?

I just have a few decades of experience with 6502 and none with Z80, so it would be much easier for me to program it.

Browsers can download fonts from the web and use them to display text on web pages. You can Google "Web fonts" to get a lot of info, but basically you just put the font file on your server and the browser downloads it and uses it.

Input and output are in a separate address space on the Z80. It's on the 6502 where they share space with code and data.
