I stand by this statement. There is one pocket of the Mission around 16th & Mission that's really diverse, and then say between Potrero and Bryant is mostly hisanic between 14th & Cesar Chavez The rest of the Mission is pretty freak

By diversity, do you mean "lots of people of different races and ethnic heritages live here in harmony" or do you mean "lots of ethnic food to eat"? Because I would call hijinx on the former, this city is pretty white, at least all of SOMA/

I did, and yes I hate the climate. I've stayed for a decade, and threatened to move back to New York quite consistently. There's nowhere else in the country to live for tech though, everything else really feels like amateur hour.

Fully agreed. The only reason I would find that type of shut-off acceptable would be if Rackspace were getting DDOS'd to a point that was costing them significant expenses by way of bandwidth, manpower, or downtime credits to other customer

If you're like me and a fat sysadmin, I'd recommend moving somewhere with a pool, and forcing yourself to swim 2 hours every morning. It does wonders for your productivity, body, and personal life

I agree with this one, but that's just because they're an overpriced, incompetent hosting company.

For the most part, the reasons that hosts don't permit Porn is that pornographers are notoriously bad at paying their bills, and the amount of fraud and theft in the online porn industry is staggering. It's also why it's nearly impossible f

You have the right to get on a soap-box and say whatever you want. You just don't have the right to use my business's facilities to do so. All businesses should reserve the right to refuse service, and exercise that when they feel it's warr

Might I recommend reading http://www.amazon.com/How-Win-Friends-Influence-People/dp/06... It's helped me immensely in getting over my geekdom, and learning how to relate to people easier. Your mileage may vary.

I'm really curious. Imagine you were at a party, and engrossed in a conversation about food. Honey comes up, so somebody asks a question about bee raising. Would you tell that person, "You're either trolling this party, or (may I politely p

Your point of reference has changed. My father was the biggest man in the world when I was 5 years old, now I feel like I could hollow out a leg and hide him in it.

I've known several DBAs on H-1B's who were paid severely under market rate for what they were doing. How is "market rate" defined?

Personally I seem to be reasonably happy when I'm consulting 2 hours a day and working on my new startup 6-10 hours a day. However, I'm happiest when I'm spending 4 hours per day down at the swimming pool flirting with my cute neighbors. Th

I was curious enough about this to ask a pothead friend about this, his statement is that buying in such small quantities he expects to pay $20-$25 per gram for "high grade" plant material at the pot stores^W^Wmedical marijuana dispensaries

Perhaps, I haven't purchased one since I stopped doing packaged foods, but I no longer notice the standard sized candy bars, the liquor store counters and grocery store check-out aisles seem to be filled only with the "king size" versions.

I remember when a candy bar was 1/2 today's size. Everywhere you go it's "supersized this" and "supersized that". Even snickers bars are 2" longer, 1/2" thicker, and 1/2" wider than they used to be.

So they gouge on the RAM but they generally give everything else at a very respectable price? Sounds reasonable to me. It's not too shocking actually .. If you're renting a $99/month server with 512MB of memory and 80gb of disk space, you'r

Agreed, with a 12 megapixel camera I never felt printing anything over 16 x 20 was acceptable, even with my 22 megapixel 5dmk2 I don't go much larger than 20 x 30.

Just like Technorati, Digg's failure at coming up with a business model that doesn't annoy it's entire userbase has rapidly faded it into irrelevancy. Does Digg have a lot of hardware? I hope they use dovebid, so I won't have to register wi

It should make sense if you keep the word Bubble in the back of your head. Most acquisitions are ridiculous, $20m to hire a team of 10 people and throw the technology away has become commonplace. The math doesn't work out except for panic b
