I don't pay taxes in the US. I pay them in Austria, where the system mostly works (in comparison). If taxes are misused, the misuse is the problem, not the concept of taxes itself. Government may be reaching into our pockets, but we al

No one is saying only privileged people can be successful. Just that observation has shown that the odds are stacked against them. I would call that unjust, and thus would be accused of playing the status game. It's a toxic argument.

The article is insane. Pure ideological reductive bs. To say anyone who points out social injustice plays a silly mean game of status is the most cynical thing I've read in a while. As if capitalists weren't driven by status. And

That's why I switched from a German QWERTZ layout to US International. Don't like the dead keys, but the shortcut confusion is worse.

Not everyone is spending most of their time in a terminal already. I'm not going to context switch to a terminal and move my hand off my mouse just to be able to type a command that I could have issued with a couple of mouse clicks in

Same here, although I have been mainly on Windows for the past 5 years because of other reasons. If I didn't use my computer for music production I'd have no problem going Linux only.

First thing I do when opening a Word document at work is converting it to PDF and reopen it in Sumatra Reader. It just feels a lot better to me. It opens faster, it opens at the position I left it at, zooming in and out is fast, scrolling i

I don't like using phones without a case because they're too thin for me. I get cramps. So thickness wouldn't be an issue for me. I hope I'm not the only one.

I spent about 2000 Euros on therapy last year. And I'm only going every other week. I might get a motorcycle this year instead to save some money.

It's interesting how free speech is being interpreted and abused for hate speech so often. This isn't as much of a thing in German speaking areas, where it is called freie Meinungsäußerung. Frei ... Free Meinung ... Opinion Äußeru

I love how I stumble over photo prints from time to time in my home. When I stumble over a hard disk drive or a USB stick I usually don't look what's on it, because I'd have to boot up my PC, etc.

Nope. A computer can only do what the apps installed on it let you do, unless you're an IT person. The things is that you don't need to be an IT person to use applications, as it used to be. So fewer people learn IT skills just so

I think aesthetics are an important aspect of GUI design, since it has such a big impact on the emotional state of the user. But if it starts to interfere with readability then no amount of visual craftmanship can make up for it. I really t

I'd love to see a graph of that income over those 20 years! Also, do you get any license payments from Harrison Consoles? And if yes, are those included in the 100k per year?

Deactivating Windows Defender for the subsystem‘s storage folder helps somewhat, but I agree that the situation makes the WSL close to broken for many potential users.

Anything that seriously stresses you out will have a negative impact on your performance. It's a shame that so often that thing seems to be how to pay rent on time, or being able to provide for your familiy financially.

I come from Vim, Sublime Text, Jetbrains IDEs, and have tried a lot of other stuff as well, but not as thoroughly. At some point VSCode became snappy enough for me to use as my main editor, and Sublime Text really spoiled me in that regard.
