I think you're right that there's a quantity of data where using D3.js will start to be more productive than doing it manually in something like Illustrator. It's an instance of a trade off that we're all familiar with:

Your question is answered in the Q&A page linked from the email: Has the recent revert from Intel triggered this decision? A: No. It is completely unrelated. This decision was made by our engineering management team and was based solely

I think part of the difference in approach can be explained by the arrival of the 386 processor. At the time Stallman makes his announcement he needs Unix workstation vendors to donate their proprietary hardware for him to work on, because

Just to be clear, in case the post's headline misleads you, there's nothing OS X specific about colout - it'll work just as happily on Linux. The documentation even points to an PPA from where you can install an Ubuntu package.

I really don't understand this view that seems to be shared by quite a number of people: that Canonical shouldn't attempt (and some seem to suggest aren't competent) to build their own system components, but should instead confine their eff

Not to mention that official law enforcement has governance in place to at least try to make sure they don't go and lynch someone on a hunch. It might not be perfect, but it's better than the alternatives.

What seems bizarre about this is that the licensed software market seems to be moving full-speed towards app stores with one-off fees, perpetual licenses and broad usage rights across a customer's devices. But with Office 2013 Microsoft see
