Sadly, I feel that the real issue here is that few people are willing to pay the real cost of individually produced, handmade products, enough to pay the person making them a honest living. We've all become so accustomed to economies o

The real difficulty though, is if you start moralising too much, you may find that there aren't many jobs (let alone any that pay well), that are completely virtuous.

Market size is always a problem in Switzerland. But you could say the same of startups in Israel, which seem to be doing just fine. As a Swiss startup (or a startup starting in any small market), you know from the beginning that you will ha

> In the valley we only seem good at solving single isolated problems... I'd suggest that's precisely because that's how engineers are taught to solve problems (and not just in the valley). Reduce a problem to it's si

I'm not a US American, but could it be that the bloc (of states) has gotten so large that an individual's vote is so diluted that it feels like it's not a democracy? Especially considering the number of different nationalitie

Yeah... most musicians (i.e. "creatives") aren't coders. They prefer high-level GUIs (that strangely always look like expensive vintage analogue gear). And most coders aren't musicians.

I'm in a related field (I do a lot of signal processing in Pure Data), and I also keep an eye on the live coding scene. You're absolutely right here in that Tidal isn't about signal processing, it's about a flexible, cre

FMA3 (fused multiply add) instructions are very common for any kind of audio processing (e.g. filters), not only for their speed but also their precision properties. Depending on how a game was compiled, these instructions would be all over

You can do something similar (translate to fast C) with Pure Data (Pd) [0], a graphical audio programming language, by using Heavy [1]. [0] http://puredata.info/ [1] https://enzienaudio.com/

Pd and Max/MSP are indeed great languages, at least with respect to being able to visualize audio signal flows. But I beg to differ with this idea that they can't be fast or efficient. Such languages can be compiled just like any

The hype all sounds well and good, but it seems to be what they're really offering is an opportunity to do "large scale" monte-carlo simulations. Which is also a great thing, but the results of said simulations will only be a

These are beautiful pictures! But I'm not sure that they count as fractals. A defining feature of fractals is that they are self-similar at any scale. Most of these plants are "simply" wonderful examples of a very regular geo
