That is indeed some A grade propaganda that manages to put a very strange spin on things in an attempt to paint these concerns as weird fringe things that only a tiny handful of people care about and only for misinformed and nefarious reaso

This is one of many things that were true when React was first created and is now no longer needed. I feel like half of React’s codebase is just reimplementing features that are now browser native. It seems like they have painted themselves

I really enjoy the Lit model. It’s quite a bit faster than React, it is a tiny bit of syntactic sugar on top of browser APIs. It’s powering Photoshop ( https://web.dev/ps-on-the-web/ ) and a future release of YouTube I b

How embarrassing. I couldn’t even begin someone asking me to refer to them as a metamate. I don’t think I am capable of taking that scenario seriously.

I think a simple heuristic would be who is using it internally. It’s their payment platforms and Ads platform and a centrepiece of their upcoming operating system. It has literally billions of dollars depending on it. It’s not going anywher

I suspect that mid term this is going to be changing. There is currently a big behind the scenes push to move the web target to Wasm (dependent upon Wasm GC landing in some kind of reasonable timeframe). At that point I suspect you will see

I’ve noticed Apple and Elon fans are some of the worst for this in particular. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/business-59863... https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology&#x

As someone who is about to start a big project with gRPC kind of at the middle of it all would you mind elaborating on the other problems you were alluding to? From the outside and some basic testing it seems great

I’m only familiar with Flutter which just happens to have a render to Canvas option on the web but they have a full accessibility tree that is designed for exactly that already with zero work from the developer.

I mean I would just argue that the accessibility APIs are currently tied to the DOM and we should fix that.

I think there is probably an argument to be made that if that’s a scary and unreasonable sounding number for your use case then it’s not the right tool for the job and maybe you might want to consider PostgreSQL knowing that you can migrate

I think what you have said is in many ways very true, a modern web browser is in many ways comparable to an operating system and even more so with Chrome's push into new APIs that do things like access local file systems for example. I

This is such an unreasonable and paranoid set of trade offs. You could have gotten basically the same (I would even argue better) level of security with a virtual machine and an otherwise full browsing experience.

Agreed, of all the places you could have sold that information the official channel by FAR pays the worst (Apple in particular being a notoriously terrible company to deal with for security problems but by no means are the only ones) which

The other option here is using Spanner from Google ( https://cloud.google.com/spanner ) which now has full PostgreSQL compatibility. That gets you global scalability with minimal meaningful changes to your application at all.

Hence my timeline of a few years, right now browsers have coupled accessibility with the DOM but that is going to change.

Honestly, I’m more waiting for WASM garbage collection to officially land as a standard. It won’t get me DOM level access but I can at least move a lot of my code there. I’m also quietly hopeful that canvas based rendering can make some hug
