I think the uniqueness of English can kind of be quantified by its rate of divergence. That is what the author sort of gets to by saying that there are no mutually intelligible languages. I think that if we could quantify that rate (by time

If Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish are considered separate languages, or Serbian and Croatian, then I can't see how Scots is not a separate language from English. I guess a lot of it comes down to politics.

It's being downvoted because it is really mean spirited, in case it wasn't obvious to you. You know there are MS engineers reading this thread, and your comment is essentially shitting on them and saying that they don't have

The thing is, I don't even think that's an issue. Some people just want a Tesla. They don't care what model it is. Until the 3,they would have had to get the super. And some did. Now a lot of those same people will just get t

You generally don't need to be a car person to appreciate a luxury vehicle. Not sure how the model S is different from any other luxury vehicle, who's target audience is not car people, but just people with higher disposable incom

The Xbox One is the only device I know of that has it. There may be others. A quick search seems to suggest so, but it appears that a lot of it use it for audio only? Not sure how that works.

Fair points. I'm really kind of tied to the idea that someone is going to do this as a set-top box format. What you mention is a major issue though. Maybe it can use the video output only if the TV is already on, and just failsafe to a

Does AppleTV have HDMI pass through? You would need it for it to compete with the echo. The echo is always on, always listening and accessible. Having to turn on the TV and change inputs and all that removes all of the conveniences of the e

It has a much better microphone array. It's actually probably the one thing that stands out about the echo to me. The mic is really good.

You can leave the TV always on, but muted and blacked out by the set top box. That may be a good solution to that? Not sure if anyone has designed that on a set top box.

Agreed on most points, however there is a bit of utility in it. Every time your echo directs you to the Alexa smartphone app, you realize how useless it is. I know how to use the Internet. If I wanted to look something up, I know how to do

Voting rights have value. If some entity wants to gain control of the company, then they would need to buy voting shares.

Well it's a matter of whether Apple wants the workstation market. Do they want it, warts and all? If they do, then they have to adapt. If it's not worth it for them, then just give it up. People are just not gonna buy non-upgradea

Without dividends, you could value it by its voting right. Stocks with neither dividends nor voting rights I don't understand at all, its only value is in speculation. Those cases just seem like gambling more than anything to me.
