It's more the other way 'round, as Idera only cares for big corporate customers (cf. Sencha). And FP/Lazarus was a bit late to the party. Mindshare is easily lost and nigh impossible to regain.

Wasn't this a somewhat common opinion 10+ years ago, when it looked increasingly C++ in its split of user bases (weird operators for one, less boilerplate Java for others)? I mean, that's how we got languages like Ceylon, Fantom o

Sometimes I wish Borland wouldn't have been so successful with TP/Delphi, because a popular Modula-2 might have outlived the company's gruesome death.

What's the minimum Clang for this? I've been playing around with old versions of MacOS recently and most of the "Let's keep some old version of Firefox alive" projects are failing or bound to. Sooner or later this m

I think when people talk about ATM transaction involving Cobol, it's more about the server software responding, not the one running on terminals. Having said that, I wouldn't be too surprised if old green screen ATMs would have us

I thought people got along with Rust due to its features and semantics and learned to live with the syntax. Not it being something one would copy. (I'm personally still hoping for a Ratfor/Coffeescript transpiler) Also, wonder how

As a RPG recommendation, I'm not too familiar with the current Hite-led V5 version. In the bad analogy section? Good question. I mean, it sells itself as being quite different, but there's way more legacy than they'd accept (

Perl is HERO. There's a module for everything, but the core isn't as exact/rigid as GURPS. ;) (Having modules for everything would fit JS, too, but I'm not mean enough to call any RPG out as being the same as that.)

Militaristic as a use case, industrial as a design methodology. It's the only system I'm aware of that has a ballistic justification for both damage and armor (at least in 4E, for non-medieval weaponry). I myself like GURPS a lot.

Let me get into the exact opposite direction of the other main thread: We're on hacker news, so you might like to fiddle around with things a bit too much. In which case, TTRPGs got your back, too. First of all, regardless of the sys

I'd rather see DPS than the current hodgepodge of technologies, but that's part of having given up on the whole original concept and accepting that we're deep into the mire of the web as an application delivery system. For su

Ah, Modula-3, one of my perennial favorites. Definitely a different continuation of Modula-2 than Wirth's own Oberon. Agree on the tooling issues. If it would've "sold" better, so many languages of the last two decades c

The timeline does skip a bit too fast over Medos-2[1], the predecessor of the Lilith's operating system, using Modula-2. That plugs the gap between the Alto-Oberon timeline, with Oberon basically being both a continuation of that and a

I have a "Delphi for Kids" book which included a free version of the lowest Delphi tier. And yes, sure, I guess you can do the same with the current community version, but it does show how broadly Delphi was aimed and received.
