Funny that ownership change is usually considered a startup success.

Web servers would have to be retrofitted to sign, distribute, and authenticate client certificates, so there is O(apps) work to be done. For symmetric tokens, each app would just have to store the token in the user DB, and then tell the cl

Hmmm. I'm sure browser certs is a well-worn topic, so maybe you could just point me to a proposal/discussion about it, but I don't really see the benefit client keys have over per-user symmetric tokens if each app is its own CA. Symmetric

I'm not sure I understand you correctly, but he's saying that startup founders tend to be young, probably due to the risk profile of startups vs small businesses. Entrepreneurs as a whole (a much larger group) may well be in their forties

He never said the latter isn't an entrepreneur.

I'm surprised you're pro-client certs given the privacy implications.

Well documented -\-> Easily understandable. I'd rather read this than an RFC. Can you point me to a better summary of SSL?

So I shouldn't use a compiler? A bug in generated app code could corrupt my kitten photos just as easily as generated DB models could.

Though using self-signed certs during development is a perfect way to test https without shelling out for a CA signature.

For YC, is E(IPO) > E(quick acquisition). The latter obviously being more likely, but less valuable. How do you have enough data to know?

If you build on any platform that you don't control (which every software developer does), you can be cut off. The question is whether or not Facebook has a history of doing this. I'm not aware of one. A platform becoming your competitor

That statement is too general. Obviously it's a good idea for desktop software developers to build on the Windows platform. I build websites on the "IE platform" in that I rely on IE for distribution. Does Facebook have a history of cutt

1) I think he meant YC, in which case this new deal makes the metaphor exaggerated, but fairly appropriate. 2) That was a joke. Though I definitely would have rather coded in Arc than PHP when I was at Facebook.

There are technical AI classes here that are required for a CS major. This one is an elective called "Can Machines Think? Can Machines Feel?". We read famous AI papers (including McCarthy's "Ascribing Mental Qualities to Machines") and ta

Luck, mainly. I'm taking an AI class at Stanford, and it turns out that the professor knows McCarthy. The class is philosophical, not technical, so I don't know how all of these technical questions are going to be received, but I can't no
